Lost Planet 2 Receiving New Maps Via DLC

by Tim Turi on Apr 20, 2010 at 05:00 AM

Capcom fans don’t touch down on E.D.N. III until May 11, but that isn’t stopping the company from revealing the game's first DLC pack. Containing two very different locations, we’ve got a first look at Helix and Back to the Island maps.

Helix

Taking place entirely under water, Helix allows players a freedom of movement not found in many other online third-person shooters. Set on a horizontally inclined, underwater industrial structure, soldiers can take advantage of being submerged by swimming for short distances. Lost Planet 2’s frenetic multiplayer gets even crazier when a Snow Pirate thug treads water above while spraying bullets down at you. Vital Suits are also scattered around the map, so be sure to snag one quick to make short work of landlubbers having trouble with their water wings.

Back to the Island

This next map is also surrounded by water, but the bulk of the action takes place on an island’s surface. Among the isle’s bombed-out ruins are tons of Vital Suits, making this map focused on mech combat. If you find yourself trekking about without your metal robot suit, you’re sure to be reduced to a smear in no time unless you make it to one of the few turrets. Back to the Island features every Vital Suit you could desire, from the bipedal, rocket shooting types to the helicopter variations. Solders in powerful land roving mechs have an advantage over flying types due to their superior weaponry, but unlike their aeriel brethren, they are susceptible to plummeting into the ocean’s depths. Choose wisely.

If you’ve already preordered Lost Planet 2 at select outlets, then this map pack may already be yours for free. For everyone else, the Helix and Back to the Island maps will be available for purchase together at launch. Pricing is yet to be determined, but it’s never too late to preorder!
