DSi XL's Solid Debut

by Matthew Kato on Apr 19, 2010 at 06:30 AM

Nintendo's jumbo-sized Nintendo DSi XL made a decent debut according to NPD numbers culled by industry analyst Michael Pachter.

The company's newest DSi iteration, the XL, sold 141,000 units in the U.S. according to March NPD retail numbers. Of course, the system released on March 28, near the very end of the month, so it's likely that the handheld's launch numbers are actually higher. Overall, the NPD chart simply lists all DS units under the same banner, and in March the system sold a total of 700,800 units.

Although the DSi XL's overall launch numbers are larger than 141,000 units, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo's announcement of the 3DS blunts any of consumer's enthusiasm for the DSi XL. Pachter himself said he thought the DSi XL wouldn't do well...
