EA Lands On The Fortune 500 List

Electronic Arts is the only dedicated video game publisher on Fortune Magazine's landmark Fortune 500 list based on public companies' gross revenue. You won't see Nintendo or Activision-Blizzard on this list, but the House of Madden is running with the big boys. Where did the company place?

Electronic Arts may have only come in at 494 (one below H&R Block and one above those stiffs at Franklin Resources), but unlike me, they're at least on the list. Fortune 500 categorizes EA in the "computer software" category, along with the likes of heavy hitters Microsoft (#36) and Oracle (#105). EA is listed as having over $4 billion in revenue in 2009, and it's their first year on the list.

  • YAY! I don't usually care much for publishers but given the great games I've gotten from EA lately, I say congrats to em for being rich...*** them. I want some!

  • Good job EA. That's a prestigious list to break into.

  • It's very revealing that despite having three of the most wildly successful franchises in video game history (Guitar Hero, CoD, and WoW), Acti-Blizzard did not make the list.  Makes you wonder what they're spending their money on, and how diversified they are compared to EA.

  • @Loate, they're probably spending it all on legal fees, court costs, etc. How many lawsuits have they had in the past year? Courtney Love, No Doubt, the IW debacle. I don't think I've seen one company in court as much as Activision....besides Nintendo, of course.

  • At least a game company made it on the list.

  • congrats to them

  • ea is sometimes too big business for my tastes, but definitely good news for the industry. you know bobby kotick is salivating at the prospect ...

  • Congratulations. Shows how much EA has changed in the last few years. The games they have been putting out recently have been top notch.

  • Great job EA. I know that they ran into some troubles in 2008 with releasing too many new IPs too close together during the holiday rush, but I'm glad to see they're still flourishing in 2009. Keep it up guys!

  • So profits rise when you clean up your act?

  • Awesome!

  • So they just made it on this list showing that they have lots of money yet I seem to remember a certain company making lots of lay-offs at the end of last year... something doesn't add up.  =/

  • All that WITHOUT riding on Blizzards coattails... haaaaa...

  • EA: doin work

  • Congrats EA hope this money is put to good use.

  • Congrats, EA! Keep it rolling! Don't stop!

  • That's not bad. I for one have never broken the 300 mark.
  • Good for EA....now give me an ending worth buying for C&C, then I'll like you as a company again.

  • Sweetness...where would we be with The Sims or Madden?!

  • thats good they made it but its not like we get any of thier money XP
