Hot on the heels of 2K Games' XCOM announcement, another cult classic PC game may be scheduled for a revamp. United States Copyright Office documents from 2009 were recently unearthed by tip hunter Superannuation that reveal EA and Chronicles of Riddick developer Starbreeze are (or were) planning to revive the long-dead fan-favorite Syndicate.

The isometric tactical action game, which found a steadfast following due to its unique cyberpunk setting and intricate narrative, was originally developed by the Peter Molyneux-led Bullfrog studio. The revamp is thought to be the secret project, code-named Project RedLime, that served as the centerpiece to the formation of a partnership between Starbreeze and EA Partners in 2008.

Late last month EA announced it had spiked one of the two Starbreeze projects, which was believed to be a game based on the Jason Bourne franchise. Following that news story, however, an Electronic Arts spokesperson told the L.A. Times that "EA and the Lundlum Estate are still discussing making a game based on the Bourne franchise." Which game really got the hook remains in the dark. Which would you prefer – a Starbreeze developed Jason Bourne game, or a reinvention of the classic Syndicate?
