Tor Announces Dead Space: Martyr Novel

by Ben Reeves on Apr 13, 2010 at 08:09 AM

One of the most intriguing aspects of Dead Space’s lore is the history surrounding the Church of Unitology, it’s founder Michael Altman, and the discovery of the original Black Marker. Dead Space: Martyr, a new novel from Tor Books, written by Brian Evenson, will explore these events in more detail.

The book will focus on geophysicist Michael Altman, his discovery of the Black Marker, his founding of the Church of Unitology, and his rumored assassination by the government. These events all took place hundred of years before the events of the original Dead Space, and were only briefly touched on in logs scattered throughout the game, so series fans should be excited to see the franchise's lore expanded in more detail.

“The Dead Space world is incredibly vast and rich -- expanding its fiction into a novel lets us share parts of the story that just can’t fit into videogames,” said Steve Papoutsis, executive producer of Dead Space 2.  “We hope Dead Space: Martyr will be the first of many books to let fans dive deeply into Dead Space’s secrets and immersive lore.”

Dead Space: Martyr author Brian Evenson is an Edgar Award finalist and the author of books like Altmann's Tongue and Father of Lies. Anyone familiar with his work? Any Dead Space fans intrigued by this book's plot?
