Final Fight Punches Onto XBLA and PSN, And WiiWare Gets Its Strategy Fix

What's the budget-conscious gamer have to look forward to this week? Check out this week's console downloads.

There were more than a couple cries of joy around the Game Informer office when this week's XBLA and PSN game was announced – Final Fight: Double Impact. Capcom has prepped this title for release on both platforms, packing it full of all sorts of goodies for old-school arcade fans. The classic brawling craziness of the Final Fight arcade game is included, along with the fantasy-themed Magic Sword. Both games have been remastered for play in HD, but you can switch things over to the original visuals if you're looking for the authentic experience. Online leaderboards and drop-in co-op play should add to the significant value of the package; both games in a single download are yours for 800 Microsoft points ($10) on XBLA, or $9.99 on PSN. As expected, the Live Arcade version will show up online this Wednesday, April 14th. The PSN version follows a day later.  We'll have our full review of Final Fight: Double Impact up later this week, if you'd like a more comprehensive write-up before you purchase.

[UPDATE: Final Fight: Double Impact Review]

For gamers looking for a more strategic offering this week, your best bet is to scoot over to WiiWare and pick up Military Madness: Nectaris. The hex-based tactical game plays out futuristic battles on the surface of the moon. The game is a remake of the original, which first appeared in the states on the Turbo-Grafx 16 way back in 1990. The new WiiWare version includes 4-Player online multiplayer, new commander units, and stat-focused leaderboards. The game will put you back 1,000 Wii points ($10), and is available today for the first time on Wii. Don't worry if you're not a Nintendo guy; the game has been out on both PSN and XBLA for several months.

So what do you say? Who is up for a little brawling this week to save Jessica from the Mad Gear gang?

  • Not me.

  • Final Fight looks like a fun game, but I'll be to busy trying to beat the annoying final boss in Bayonetta to worry. I know I feel bad I haven't beaten it yet.

  • final fight is awesome but you know what is better, streets of rage and they have had that out on the sega collection for a while.

  • 4th!

  • Yes!  Been waiting for Final Fight!  Gonna be fun playing it again and going for trophies!

  • I remember playing the demo for Military Madness.  Not a bad lil strategy game.  One I'd like to purchase if I had the spare funds to throw around.  Unfortunately, I don't.  Still one I've got in mind for maybe sometime later this summer though.

  • I have some good memories of this game.

  • I still need to buy cave story on the wii and FF7 on PSN

  • Double pass for me.  I picked up the first Wallace & Gromit last week while it was on sale.  But that's on the back burner while I grind through a few games I've got close to completing at the very least a playthrough, if not 100% completion.

  • Neither of these sound all that appealing.

  • Final Fight on PSN.....if I had a quarter for every quarter I put in that machine at the local Carbone's, I would have enough to buy me the actual arcade cabinet.

  • Final Fight is an awesome Co-op game. Love it! But probably won't get it for a while.

  • Two games for 9.99 is a great deal already. The fact that they are Final Fight AND Magic Sword is that much better. Can't wait to get it.

  • Can I just get Final Fight for 5 bucks? Ehhh, wishful thinking :P

  • I'm excited about Final Fight.

  • Final Fight....nice release!
