Indie Hit Machinarium Not Coming To Xbox Live

by Ben Reeves on Apr 12, 2010 at 01:09 PM

Czech indie developer, Amanita Design was hoping to publish its critical darling, Machinarium, through Microsoft’s Xbox Live service later this year, but that doesn’t look like that will be happening since Microsoft recently passed on publishing the title.

Machinarium’s gorgeous art style and inventive puzzle/adventure gameplay won over a lot of critics when the game came out on Mac and Linux in 2009. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough to convince Microsoft that it should bring the game over to the Xbox 360. If the game isn’t a Microsoft exclusive, the software giant says they don’t want to deal with it. This doesn’t prohibit Amanita Design from finding a different publisher to put the game on Xbox Live, but Amanita Designs doesn’t feel that this would be a profitable maneuver.

All hope of seeing Machinarium on consoles is not lost, however. According to Joystiq, Amanita Design has already begun the process of pitching its game to Sony, so hopefully we’ll see Machinarium up on the PlayStation Store before long.

The game is currently available via Valve’s Steam service. Anyone out there played it yet? What did you think?
