The lights are on
The last 10 years have inexplicably seen the rise in popularity of "torture porn" movies - series like Saw and Hostel that are short on plot and heavy on wince-inducing gore. When Konami brought the latter franchise to the gaming world last year, it seemed like an odd choice. Considering that the films featured little more than a sadist placing victims in torture devices, it didn't seem terribly conducive to compelling gameplay. As many expected, the game turned out to be mediocre at best. Despite the lukewarm reaction to the first, Konami is hoping you'll wince along for another installment when Saw II releases for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
From the gameplay demo on display at Konami Gamers Night, it seems that the title will be heavy on puzzles and minigames. Escaping your imminent doom will involve solving brain-teasers in a certain number of moves or a certain amount of time, and will sometimes require releasing other victims rather than yourself. One particularly gruesome scene revolved around slowly knifing through a stitched-up wound underneath your eyeball in an effort to release a key.
While the idea of popping a key out of your eye may not sound like a terribly compelling gameplay experience, this brand of entertainment has been successful enough to give us six (soon to be seven) installments of the film series. If minigames and gore sound like a good combo to you, it might be worth checking out Saw II when it releases this fall.

eh...i don't know about this one. I will pass.
problem is, we are all desensitized to game violence
Anthony makes a very valid point. We've seen our fair share of blood and gore. Saw is a good(ok, maybe not so good but I like watching to see the people die horrible deaths and to see who the new jigsaw is) movie, mainly because the puzzles are intricate and over the top to say the least. I think nothing of cutting out my own eyeball on my videogame to survive. So I will wait for a review before I ultimately say 'pass'
My policy for the saw games is the same as the movies. Do not ever spend a dime on them and one day, they will hopefully go away. I remember liking the first two movies, but after that they became unbearable. The only thing those two dvds I own are good for are collecting dust.
I didn't think it could get worse than these movies. This looks horrid
Looks like my friend is going to be wasting his money on another horrible game.
Never watched any of the films, no interest in the game... I don't know if this kind of stuff is classified as slasher or something else - but whatever it is... no thanks.
I think if the game was you making the stuff people would be stuck in, that would be fun.
I doubt Konami will be able to fix all of the inherent problems.
The first Saw game was not that bad. Its major problems were the repetitive nature of the game, and the never ending campaign. Throughout the entire thing you were pretty much doing the same thing over and over and over again. Imagine that, for 11 hours and you got the basic idea of it. It was like Assassins Creed in that it had a lot of good ideas but they didn't know what to do with them.
Nah Silent Hill would be better
i never got the term "torture Porn"
The first game had a few decent elements that were executed poorly. With a few more tweaks, they can make it a good game...but I doubt it since most movie-video games are just money grubs.
from what I understand, SAW is not torture porn. The term torture porn is not that there is a lot of gorey torture. It's that there is a lot of nudity/sex AND torture. The movie that fits that bill is Hostel, and even more so, Hostel 2. Again, the term torture porn is not formed the same way as nerds say "gadget pron." It's not a euphemism, it is what it is.
Sigh. Really? I'm surprised they made any money off of the first game.
I'm so sick of saw
the reason this doesn't work for the game is that you have to choose between pain and death, and if it's in a game you're obviously going to choose life
No interest in these games... the movies are halloween tradition, but that's about it.
WoooooW..... saw 2
Meh. The movies were enough.
