Konami Gamers Night 2010

by Meagan Marie on Apr 09, 2010 at 06:30 AM

Konami's Gamers Night showcased flagship franchises and revealed new properties. Check below for news, previews and media from Konami's upcoming offerings.

Lords Of Shadow Could Be The First Great 3D Castlevania
It's no secret that the Castlevania series has thrived in its 2D incarnations, but stumbled when taking the step into the third dimension. While the latter titles weren't absolute trainwrecks by any description, they lacked a certain magic that was present from the NES originals all the way through Symphony of the Night and DS versions. Producer David Cox wants to change the series' reputation by rebooting Castlevania in 3D and reminding gamers why it's such a legendary name in the industry.

Lost In Shadow To Change How You Approach Platforming
At first glance, Hudson's Lost In Shadow resembles Ico if you took all the characters, turned them into shadows, and made it a 2D platformer. Despite the aesthetic similarities, you'll immediately notice gameplay mechanics you've never seen as soon as you start playing. Lost In Shadow challenges platforming veterans by forcing them to focus on the shadows behind objects rather than the 3D models themselves. The result is a novel title that challenges your sense of perception in a new and exciting way.

Saw II Is Coming, Fans Of Torture Porn Rejoice
The last ten years have inexplicably seen the rise in popularity of "torture porn" movies - series like Saw and Hostel that are short on plot and heavy on wince-inducing gore. When Konami brought the latter franchise to the gaming world last year, it seemed like an odd choice. Considering that the films featured little more than a sadist placing victims in torture devices, it didn't seem terribly conducive to compelling gameplay. As many expected, the game turned out to be mediocre  at best. Despite the lukewarm reaction to the first, Konami is hoping you'll wince along for another installment when Saw II releases for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

The Cold War Returns This Fall With Rush 'N Attack: Ex-Patriot
A couple years back, Capcom had a hit on their hands with Bionic Commando: Rearmed (we don't like to talk about that other recent Bionic Commando). By taking a fondly remembered classic, totally overhauling the graphics, adding a great remixed soundtrack, and tweaking some gameplay elements, it was met with great reviews and plenty of sales. Konami is hoping that formula works the same with another series that hasn't been seen much since the '80s - Rush 'N Attack.

New PSP Bundle To Arrive With Peace Walker
Konami has been selling Peace Walker as the next true Metal Gear Solid game for a while, putting plenty of promotion and hype behind its release. It seems that they're also hoping it'll be a system-seller, as a new "Big Boss Pack" PSP bundle will be released alongside the game on June 8.

Lucha Libre Comes To The U.S. With Heroes Of The Ring
American wrestling fans may be familiar with the term "lucha libre," but the high-flying style of professional wrestling has never really taken off on this side of the border. Outside of La Parka, Rey Mysterio, and Psychosis flying all over WCW rings in the late '90s, most U.S. "sports entertainment" fans are more used to hulking grapplers like Triple H, The Undertaker, and Hulk Hogan. Head down to Mexico, however, and these masked daredevils are huge superstars. Konami is hoping to tap into the fast-paced action of lucha libre and bring it into the gaming world with Heroes of the Ring.

New Silent Hill Teased At Konami Gamers Night
Many attendees of Konami Gamers Night were already heading upstairs for hands-on demos when they were instructed to return to their seats for "one last surprise." What they saw didn't explain much, outside of the fact that a new Silent Hill is coming.

New N3 II Screens
A handful of new Ninety-Nine Nights II screens.

New Rocket Knight Trailer, Screens

Konami Unveils Gormiti: The Lords of Nature
In development for the Nintendo Wii and DS, the title follows the characters and story of the Italian TV show  by the same name.
