The lights are on
The BBC is planning to release four free adventure games based on the best sci-fi show on television. Doctor Who: The Adventure Games will start appearing on the BBC's website in June, and tie into the narrative of the just-started fifth season of the show.
We can assume that these are adventure games from the title, but further gameplay details are unknown. The new Doctor and companion, Matt Smith (who has massive shoes to fill) and Karen Gillan (pictured. Also: yowza!), will be digitally recreated for the games, and Doctor Who scribes Phil Ford (The Waters of Mars) and James Moran (Severance, Torchwood Children of Earth) will pen the scripts.
"There aren't 13 episodes of Doctor Who this year," said the BBC's Piers Wenger in a press release. "There are
17 -- four of which are interactive." Here's hoping! Free-to-download licensed games don't exactly inspire confidence, but much of the creative talent behind the show is involved, so these at least have a chance.
Either way, both the show and these spinoff games will undoubtedly be better than Stargate (that's right, Reiner. I said it!).
Anyone else up for some free Doctor Who content? I know I'm playing through these even if they're of dubious quality.
Never heard of the show, but maybe (I doubt it) the games will be interesting
better then stargate!!!??? as a major gate head i would ave to disagree, but if these games are free i don't see why i wouldn't check them out.
Isn't saying that Dr. Who is better than Stargate like saying garbage is better than trash? At some point, distinctions and superiority just become irrelevant.
definitely not better than stargate. Whos the idiot that said first. I mean come on are you 5 years old.
Doctor who ROCKS now make a full console game like alan wake
linktriforce, that was a waste of space
I have friends who will geek for this, and I'll have to check it out as well.
I don't watch "Doctor Who", but I'm always up for a good adventure game. The fact that the games are free is an even better deal.
Do we know where these can be downloaded for free at? Will they be on PC? XBL? PSN?
I grew up watching the original Dr. Who. You know, the ones from the 1940 and 50, and then on to the 90's. I miss those. Especially Tom Baker.
sweeeet. definitely going to try to check the games out
I'll definitely be playing these free Dr. Who games.
@ Joe Juba
Garbage!?! Did the Daleks make you say that?
the title of this article made my head hurt until i realized that doctor who is a tv series...
I would be interested to check out the free Doctor Who content. At least it has some of the creative team behind it.
I enjoy both Doctor Who and Stargate but I'm afraid I've known Stargate far longer than Doctor Who so my loyalties will have to be with Stargate. :)
While I don't think Smith will ever be able to live up to Tennant, he surprised the hell out of me in the first episode. When it airs in America, everyone should watch it. Production values are at their best yet, and the script was great.
I was ready to hate it and turn in my sonic screwdriver, but I ended up loving it!
linktriforce unless you want to be looked down on dont run around posting first on topics.
But yea the last doctor was the greatest imo. am just hoping the new one can fill his shoes
*doctor who inside joke for fans*
ha you can climb stars*
the show is pretty good, but i haven't watched it in a while, if the BBC do make a good game for doctor who then who know where it could go, they could actual make a full game in the end. i wonder hoe the game play will play out will it be more like a grand theft auto style game or a more structured style.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a REAL Dalek-versus-Cyberman fight. At any rate, I might look at these.
maybe we'll see how good the games look
