E-Mails Out For World Of Warcraft: Catacylsm Beta

If you've been listening to recent episodes of Game Informer's World of Warcraft and MMO podcast, Respec Radio, you know that around the office, we're mopping up the last bits of content Blizzard has offered up in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack. We're eager to get started on the hit MMORPG's third expansion, Cataclysm, and an e-mail we received today suggests that we might not have to wait much longer.

Starting today, Blizzard is sending out e-mails inviting World of Warcraft players to opt in for the Cataclysm beta. They note that they "do not currently have a date to announce for the start of the beta test," but if opt-ins are being sent out, we're hopeful that the beta is relatively close.

This also makes us wonder if the full expansion pack may be launching earlier than expected. With previous betas for World of Warcraft and its expansions, the beta started just a few months before the final product was released. Could we be experiencing Azeroth's great Cataclysm before the summer is through?

The beta opt-in also notes that there will not be any sort of NDA on the Cataclysm beta, which means as soon as we're in, we'll be bringing you all of the information, screenshots, and video that we can. Who else can't wait?

  • Cool.

  • if i wasn't running 3 year old integrated graphics i would be sort of excited. also, if i had a job and money.

  • Omg!!!
How do you make sure you can get emails from blizzard?
  • Somewhat tempted to reactivate to try out Cataclysm, but I'll more than likely just wait until a new MMO comes out. WoW was fun while it lasted for me, but that boat has sailed, in all likelyhood.

I might try FFXIV when it comes out, or I might just hold out til Diablo III.

  • hmm i just want to see deathwing

  • Game on duuuuuudes. I am so tired of seeing snow, and am exited to be seeing some volcanic, lava throwing, dragon ass-kicking goodness.

  • As a warcraft player myself, unless they bring out an affordable computer that can play it with no problems I won't be getting back into the game anytime soon. I am hoping to hold out for this to come out to "re-introduce" myself to the game, but might wait till after launch to get into it as that should, a big should, give blizzard time to get past all the bumps and downtime from bugs that you know will be tagging along with the release.

  • hopefully cata will involve a little bit more skill and knowledge of your class... im tired of ez mode gear.. it promotes the fail players to get into raids they shouldnt be in ....

  • I'm excited.

  • How can computers from like 10 years ago not handle this game... I hear everyone saying that they need better computers. Get out your Com64 and go to town I have a buddy that plays it on his iphone.

  • All my friends I got into WoW who still play should be happy to hear about this..

  • /twitch

    It beckons...

  • WOW

  • Not playing wow right now, loved the dungeon system, but that lasted about a month, then it was a borefest again.  This looks pretty good though

  • WOW is awesome! I really wish I had more time to play and more money to spend on it. I'm in college right now and the only time I can really play is during summer break and then by the time next summer rolls around for me I'm left in the dust. The money issue is a problem because computers ARE getting cheaper but they still cost a lot unless you have a good job or have mommy and daddy still pay your expenses. The whole thing with WOW is TIME & MONEY.... something most of us don't have. But ill try to get the expansion though.
