Stupid Criminal Alert At PAX

A hacker at PAX East has tried to steal Atomic Games Breach at the game's booth at the convention. Chases. Confessions. Singing like a canary. Real cops 'n' robbers stuff.

Joystiq has an account of the hi-jinks, which started when a Atomic Games employee caught the suspect trying to download code for Breach at the company's convention booth. After getting 14MB of the code, the suspect fled and was chased down in the crowd. Atomic says he confessed several times (including while he was doing it!); claimed that the whole thing wasn't a big deal, and that he did it because he was a fan and wanted to play it with his friends. He even tried to flip on supposed co-conspirators, claiming he could "name names."  While we're sure they wanted to perform their own backroom interrogation of the wanna-be thief, Atomic is leaving matters to the cops, who've confiscated the hacker's laptop and other equipment.

  • Well he sure sounds like a criminal mastermind. A real Dr. Evil. Its sort of like this guy I used to know who left his wallet at the scene of the crime. Absolutely priceless.

  • Why would he do that? Doesnt he know all baddies get caught in the end?

    Except for Bin Laden tho

  • that made my day. if he's a true hacker, I'm sure we shall see his account of these events on FML.

  • If u build it someone will steal it!

  • just read the full report on Joystiq. That guy is an idiot...

  • Sooo I'm guessing that this guy isn't "quite" the same caliber as the hackers who hit Google...lol

  • You know I had heard about someone being led out in handcuffs. Didn't know what it was about.

  • wow, that takes balls.  I mean like serious brass balls of steel.  Good they caught him though.

  • So, as he was downloading the code he was talking to the designers about how he was stealing their code?

That's like calling the cops and reporting a bank robbery that you yourself are conducting.

    Worst. Hacker. Ever.

  • One of Atomic Games main investors is the CIA. I would love for the local law enforcement to turn him over to them just to scare the sh*t out him.

  • lol he failed....

  • I love stories like this; they make me laugh

  • Wow... grade A criminal right there.

  • lol!

  • what an idiot.

  • Oh, please tell me there will be a comic about this tomorrow morning.

  • Having read through the Joystiq article, I can tell this guy is just an all-around provider of world-class entertainment.

  • This should totally be a mission in GTA. That would be hilarious.

  • Oh man, that is idiotic!

  • Actually, homeboy's making a break for it now...
