Will Wright Creating Reality TV?

The mastermind behind Sim City, The Sims, and Spore may be veering away from video games for his next project. Rumors are indicating that gaming industry legend Will Wright is currently working on a cross between a simulation and a television called The Creation Project.

According to a report from IGN, which claims to have seen planning documents for the series, Wright's next project involves taking a user-submitted story and airing it as two separate episodes. The user creations will be made using the StoryMaker Engine developed by Wright, and will then submitted online and via mobile devices and voted on by the user community.

The Creation Project
is still in the development phase, which means that any and all of the conceptual foundations could be tweaked before it actually sees production.

What do you think of the idea so far? Does this sound like a show you'd watch?

  • Sounds like something innovative, which Wright seems to like doing.

  • Idea sounds cool.

*Mod edit: Keep it clean buster brown or face the music*
  • seems intresting.

  • I doupt its a reality tv show. But it is something interesting for sure, knowing Will Wright Its gotta be great.

  • No I will not watch it. Sounds stupid and Will Wrights ideas never really can entertain me for that long.

Spore was good untill you got to civilization stage and the Sims series get boring after you have your house how you want it. I dont think he can really give us any good ideas to hold our attention.

  • Sounds amazing, a way to see user created content streamed onto your television and mobiles and then we get to vote on the best, which then hopefully get made into games.

I'm all for this supposed game show of Wrights. And if anyone can do a game show like this, it's him.

  • Lol, sorry but just when I heard reality TV my mind immediately jumped to imagining Will Wright creating a show like Jersey Shore...

Anyways, his idea sounds cool, but when I thought it over it really didn't seem like it would work. I mean user created could lead to many mediocre stories.

  • Sure why not.  I'm not familiar with StoryMaker Engine though.

  • sure i guess, but id rather get new Spore stuff, like Spore 2, where the Tribal and Civilization stages are much much longer and maybe even more stages

  • Will Wright should do something better with his time, he's got too much talent for a "reality tv show". Spore 2 please!

  • it sounds cool, i like that they wanna get the audience involved into the project.

  • who's will wright?

  • @secondshado

did you even read the article? it says what hes famous for in the first line silly.

  • Good. Let him leave games behind. I'm sick of seeing this arrogant, self-proclaimed fool plaster his ugly face all over gaming publications. The man made one game that sold well and now thinks he's a god. Will Wright needs to get over himself.

  • did will wright do something terrible to you? sure sounds like it

  • Ah contributing to the masses of what has come to be fake reality... reality t.v. lol

  • Watching user submitted shows? Maybe I can finally get my LEGO/Shadow of the Colossus crossover looked at.

  • Sim City was one game that sold well.

The Sims was another (that inspired two more spin offs that are the biggest selling games of all time, even though I don't 'get' them).

And while the final product may not have lived up to my expectations, there is no arguing that there is a strong and active Spore community out there.

So, love him or hate him, that's more than "one game that sold well."

But I despise reality TV with a passion. I hope its not that. This, if done by a Discovery type station, could end up being a good documentary type show highlighting the creative process (but I don't count that as reality TV).
  • Sounds like a cool idea... and Will Wright would be the man for the job.
