Blizzcon 2010 Announced

What do you have scheduled for October 22-23 of this year? Whatever it is, it's not as awesome as the just-announced BlizzCon 2010, to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in sunny California. Tickets have not gone on sale yet, but if it's anything like previous years (which were held at the same venue, so it's unlikely that any more tickets will be sold) they'll sell out in no time flat – so keep your browser pointed to the official site if you're set on going.

Like previous BlizzCons, 2010's event will feature hands-on time with upcoming Blizzard games, discussion panels with the developers behind your favorite games, tournaments for both casual and pro gamers, and more merch than you can imagine.

“BlizzCon offers us a great opportunity to meet with our players and share our enthusiasm for gaming with one of the most passionate communities in the world,” said Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime in the press release. “We’re looking forward to providing another great show filled with entertainment, competition, and the latest information about Blizzard Entertainment games.”

Having attended past BlizzCons, I can assure you that they're as awesome as you think they are. The whole event is focused on the fans, with dozens if not hundreds of computers set up for pre-release play sessions, sweet live RTS tournaments with professional commentary, and fascinating inside looks at the decisions behind the company's legendary games. A lot of smoke gets blown in this industry about how developers "really do it all for the fans" and whatnot, but Blizzard puts its money where its mouth is with BlizzCon. It's an amazing experience, even for someone like me who has been doing this professionally for years.

Plus, you get beta codes and exclusive in-game pets! What can compare to that?

There has been a big announcement every year so far at the event. My money's on the announcement of the "unnamed new IP MMO" that we've known about forever, since Cataclysm and StarCraft II should be out or close to it by October and I can't think of anything Diablo III-related that would fit the bill. How about you?

  • man, living in the midwest blows sometimes. plus wife and i are just looking to buy a house. i guess i won't be going to Cali this year...

but yea, i agree with you. it is likely that their finishing move will be the announcement of their new MMO. i would really like to see the new MMO carry forward a lot of the great things in WoW. things like customizable UI and addons. i have always imagined playing a game similar to WoW but with a different skin. the art style and graphics engine in WoW are outdated. keep your fingers crossed.

  • Cali gets all the good events..

  • OMG, I was thinking the same thing man. BLizz has also stated that this currently unannounced "mmo" will not be set in any of their current franchise's lore. This "mmo" is not Starcraft MMO or WOW 2. Completely orginal franchise. They haven't created a new franchise since Starcraft! This is huge. I wanna be there. Anyone wanna Road trip from KC, KS?

  • Hopefully they'll announce the rest of the details for D3, if they haven't been announced already by then.

  • If they do reveal their new MMO it won't have a release date since the WoW expansion is coming out this year they will try to milk sales from that as long as they can, much like what they do between patches in Wrath right now.

Plus they have a triple cash cow with StarCraft 2 being stupidly being split into 3 'full' games.

Never cared for Diablo but I have a feeling most of the new info for that will be released at E3 to keep people burning for more information.

  • So want to go...

  • Yeah, I'm hoping for the D3 info as well. The suspense is killing me!

  • That's kind of cool

  • a new IP from blizz is gonna be huuuge

  • I really wish I had money, just to buy all of the sweet merchandise they have.

  • Nice, can't wait to see what they will announce and show off this year.

  • I hope they reveal some more of Cataclysm.

  • Not worth traveling across the country for. Would definitely go if I lived in Cali, though.

  • Blizzcon, In my eyes would only be worth going if there was definate progress and news on Diablo III. Its been in the works for such a long time with no new news about ... anything really.

  • Its a miss for me.

  • It's easy to do it for the fans when you have that much capital every month... and when you sell tickets at 125$ a pop.

Even so, this year should reveal some huge strides in the development of Diablo 3. Hands on with the 5th class, possible beta access... I just might be there this year.

  • i doubt they'll even have a release date for diablo 3. They will just tease us again!!

  • wow
