Sega Sheds Lights On Sonic 4’s First Zone

Fans of Sega’s little blue hedgehog have something ease the wait for Sonic 4 today. Sega updated the official Sonic 4 site to a Splash Hill Zone theme, the first level from the game. Along with that they’ve provided new screens, a Dr. Robotnik Eggman character profile, and the downloadable auditory bliss that is the first Zone’s music.

Need a refresher on the status of Sonic's nemesis following Sonic & Knuckles? Well, the roly-poly doctor's Death Egg plummeted from the sky after he lost control of the Master Emerald, and now it's back to the drawing board. Check out Dr. Eggman's beautifully rendered egg-o-matic, below.

Finally, the handful of new screens show Sonic doing some interesting things in the lush, green intro level. He speeds down walls, executes a homing attack on a power-up after spring jumping, and even flies through the air upside down. Check out the slew of new screens at Sonic 4's official website.

While you're at it, be sure to download the mp3 of the music from Splash Hill Zone. I've been listening to it on repeat and it's toe-tappingly great. Sega and developer Dimps appear to be following through on what Sonic fans have wanted since the mid-'90s.

  • Meh. It looks like an updated Sonic 2.
  • Ehh... Sonic is kinda in the past. I'm still going to group therapy to get over Pokemon...

  • A new 2d Sonic ignoring the latest flaws his IP has encountered?  Yeah, I wont be able to help myself, i'm downloading this.

  • I kinda want this...is that bad?

  • If it gets good reviews... then I will download it.

  • Did Sega ever explain why they changed Robotnik's name to Eggman? That is such a lame name. You guys should threaten to give all future Sonic games low scores until his name is changed back. Well....lowER scores

Oh and I can't wait to play this. Classic Sonic rawks....*clears throat*....I mean it rocks
  • being a sonic fan boy am downloading this either way. am sure it will be good. hell its only 5 dollars. instead of buying a big mac combo ill get this.

  • @Shatterhand

I agree.  It's like changing Sonic's name to "Fasty" and asking everyone to just buy the change in canon.

  • How many times have you listened to the mp3...?

Actually..I'm kinda worried about asking that.

  • for me is a must have thx sega.

  • Looks nice. I might get it.

  • Looks good. I'm gonna buy it.

  • I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this game. I grew up on sonic  so the nostalgia's there but I was never a fan of back tracking when it comes to new games. Eh, guess I'll wait and see.

  • :) HECK YEAH! I'm excited about this one.

  • I want this! I love old school sonic! No more 3d

  • people people please read before you post. well not on this blog but segas. though this game will be 2D/3D sega has stated its just a side series. they still plan to make 3D games.

  • *praying for best*

  • I must say that this has piqued my interest.  Sonic is what originally hooked me to gaming when I was like 5 years old.  If they can make an expanded and artistically diverse new Sonic game, then I think I'll eventually own this. I never really had much of a problem with the Sonic parts of the current Sonic games.  But playing as his annoying friends totally killed the experience.

I bet Sonic Heroes almost gave some people an existential meltdown...

  • I cannot wait for this.  It's about time Sega gave us a new 2D Sonic.  I played the crap outta Sonic 2 when I was younger, and have been so very disappointed with all of his recent games .  This one can't come soon enough.

  • i know it's gonna be good, but i miss my pixals.
