Bad Company 2 Is Popular

In the second update this month, EA reminds us again that DICE made a really good game. We’ll allow a certain degree of self-flattery in this case, as its true – Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is one of Game Informer’s favorite titles of 2010 thus far.

This morning EA sent some updated facts and figures our way, noting that Bad Company 2 is the best-selling March release on record in North America and Europe. Released on the second of the month, sales have already eclipsed 2.3 million, according to internal data.

“We are so thrilled with the success of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sales and fan response," said BC2 executive producer Karl Magnus Troedsson in a press statement. "In the first 48 hours we had such a tremendous rush to multiplayer gameplay that our servers experienced overwhelming demand. This is a testament to the massive response players have had worldwide for the extraordinary action experienced in the Battlefield sandbox. DICE and EA have brought more servers online. We now have enough capacity to handle all BFBC2 connections seamlessly and we continue to monitor online play daily.”

EA is also tracking their success across social media networks, providing a stat breakdown below:

  • 81B points have been earned in online multiplayer sessions
  • 43M weapons and gadgets have been unlocked in online multiplayer
  • Over 6M video views on YouTube
  • 2.9M hours have been spent playing online in the last 24 hours alone
  • 230K peak-concurrent-users (PCUs)
  • Over 44k Twitter fans (most out of any EA title)

While it's not selling at the ludicrous rate of Modern Warfare 2, were glad that Bad Company 2 is getting the love it deserves.

Comments
  • i am absolutely dying to play this game KRAAAAWWWWRRR !!!!! gettin it for easter cant wait.

  • thats cool luv the game i think that it deserves evrything it gets

  • you get presents for easter???? wow loser. And i don't get it, modern warfare 2 is still a lot bigger, even after being out longer...????
  • In other news: Sky still remains blue.

Good game = lots of people playing.  Glad to see it though, it deserves it.

  • It's amazing at how well the game is doing and the amount of points that have been acquired.

  • ea owes activision a debt of gratitude for all the promoting of bfbc2 that they've been doing. lol.

but they and dice don't need it. bfbc was my fave online game, despite the lack of mics and the horrendous lag.

and the sequel improves upon it with working mics, less lag and more game modes. kudos to dice.

  • This game is amazing, way better then MW2. Ive been a battlefield fan since BF 1942 and this could be my favorite yet.

  • Lots of people get gifts for Easter KINGxOFxSHADOWS. Happy to hear this, shoulda brought my PS3 up to school knew reading this would make me wanna help increase those stats.

  • I am glad it is doing so well. DICE and EA have made a fantastic game. I enjoy it more than I do Modern Warfare simply because it takes skill and it isn't designed so noobs can run around with the grenade launcher and get mad kills. If you want the kills you need the skills.

  • I can't imagine why some people still act surprised when big-name titles do well.

  • I Vote Bad Company 2 as Game of the Year... Hands down! Booyah!

  • i loved this game the second i walked around a corner and didn't get gibbed by a camper =D

  • Congrats DICE.

  • I don't understand why companies tout stats like how many kills were gotten in a game or how many unlocks were gotten. That doesn't mean anything and is stupid to parade around.

I'm very happy BFBC2 is so popular. Its really a great game.

  • It's always nice to see a legitimate good game get deserved success.

  • Someone be nice to me and buy me this game...xD Damnit as soon as I pay off my fees man...I'M COMING FOR YOU BC2

  • I have to get this game. It looks really sweet.

  • Like kicking a sick dog, keep up the smear EA.

  • So why did you give the game a 9.5?  Last time I checked, God of War didn't have an amazing multiplayer mode to compliment a great single player campaign.

Having now vented, this praise is well deserved.  That is a lot of unproductive man-hours!

  • Still skeptical about this game...
