Turtle Rock Returns From The Dead

by Tim Turi on Mar 17, 2010 at 06:43 AM

Before Valve got their mitts on Left 4 Dead, the game was being developed by a studio called Turtle Rock. The team was well-versed in creating Counter-Strike mods and ports, which caught Valve's eye. Years after Valve acquired the studio, Turtle Rock is resurfacing as an entity independent from the house of Half-Life.

Turtle Rock was acquired by Valve for the creation of Left 4 Dead in 2005, and was renamed Valve South. The California-based sector of Valve was later moved up to the developer's Washington headquarters, resulting in the absorption of most of the studio's talent.

Now the quintessential zombie FPS co-developer is back again and hiring. Michael Booth, original CEO of Turtle Rock, is taking the helm once again. Currently he’s hard at work rebuilding the development team. Nothing is known about potential projects as of now, but as soon as more information surfaces we’ll let you know.
