The lights are on
In a recent interview with Game Informer, BioWare figureheads Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk expressed reservations about Final Fantasy XIII. "I've been reading some reviews on that one. That may be on the bottom of
my list right now," said Muzyka in reference to his queue of must-play games. "It's kind of a question mark. It would have been
right up there before I read about it, but some of this other stuff is
probably more pressing."
Zeschuk chimed in, adding "It's really interesting. They're trying to do something different, which
is admirable, but it's hard. They also had a very long development
cycle. They may have been aiming at a real interesting spot at one
point, but then too much time goes by. Not only are there a lot of
games, but they are coming out fast."
We'll be curious to hear what the Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins creators have to say about the game once they get around to playing it.

games they've recently played.

This is a little dispiriting, it seems like two figureheads in gaming shouldn't be letting others decide things like this for them. Especially as game creators, playing almost any game can be a learning experience, whether you learn whats good and what is not so good. Besides, it is important to form one's own opinions.
I think I'd have kept my mouth shut were I in their situation and confronted with that question. Then again, I'm not them, and they are kind of on top of the heap right now as far as RPG development is concerned.
That headline is pure flame-bait; when you actually read the quote, they sound pretty *** rational.
Secondly, I hope that not only do they get around to checking it out a bit, but that Square gets around to playing ME2 or Fallout 3 sometime. I'm still waiting for an RPG that blends the best of both world; the customization, conversation trees and great stories of western RPGs, but the fantastic presentation, amazing visuals and memorable, beautiful music of a JRPG. Hopefully we're starting to take baby steps towards that elusive game.
Then again, Square-Enix apparently thinks that Hitman and Tomb Raider are western RPGs. So maybe, we're actually further apart from that than ever:)
Never been interested in Final Fanstasy, but if it's lasted for 14 games, I guess that means something, that the developers should try something new
WOW, well whats on the top of their list then, Ghostbusters 2 ???? Mass Effect 2 wasn 't even as good as the 1st one! Yall R GAY!!! Except for the games U make, otherwise, Ur Gay!
make dragon age graphics better first before you judge another game
You most certainly have created a controversy here GI. I do think you a tad bit irresponsible to post this headline. While the article was indeed harmless, it is in no way surprising that all the Final Fantasy Fanny-packs would get their panties in a bunch about their "vulgar arrogance" and "excruciating stupidity" and go on about how these two "dweebs" bash upon this pinnacle of games only because their franchise did not even have the royalty to kiss the toes of such franchise as Final Fantasy. It is a possibility that you new the likelihood of this event, and if so, as my fellow Frogman said before me, shame. Shame that you give these close-minded miscreants fuel for their burning desire to . . . flame. Shame that you would harm these two bodies with your out off context quotes. Shame.
lawl @ all the nerd rage.
They are just saying FF13 moved down to a few pegs... it's still on their list. a game you have no intention of ever playing is not on your list at all (that's where Cloudy With a Change of Meatballs would come in: off the list).
Wow Bioware are you trying to attack Square?
Talk about long development cycles! SWTOR?! When is that coming out again? "spring" 2011? C'mon Bioware, I'm dying here. Seriously, I love all the games BW has made. I was playing Baldur's Gate even when my parents didn't think I was old enough to use a computer. HAHA, now it's their age that prevents them from using computer!! Your doing great work and I just wanted you all to know that I've told alot of people i know you can make the best MMO starwars fans could ever dream of. Don't make me a liar.
I don't get it. If you are a game developer why would you let some review hinder your opinion like that? You nerds make games, how are you not excited to play one of the biggest franchises in gameing history? Keep your review, the game is amazing so far. Oh and Mass Effect 2, a little overhyped....
It bumped off my list after the GI podcast special and several reviews. Just didn't sound like the game I wanted to play.
You never have a reason to speak negative on a game that you haven't experienced yourself. Opinions are like b@ttholes, everyones got 'em and most of 'em stink. That being said, I like a good review and I follow up on most games by way of review before I make a purchase. But never does that make my mind up of whether it's for me or not. Experiencing it for yourself is the only way to know if the game will really be worth your cash. Yes FFXIII is linear and lacks exploring and other things we've come to love from other installments. But, it brings new things that stand out also. The battle system is the best system I have ever experienced hands down. In fact, I've enjoyed the system enough that it in itself justifies my purchase. The game is beautiful on my 360 and is possibly even better looking on the PS3 version. If you're not a fan of JRPGs or FF, this may not be for you but you can't talk positively or negatively about a game that you have not experienced personally. Always best to form your opinion on experience and not someone elses opinion, period.
Really everyone, it's just their personal preference on games, calm down a bit. I probably won't be playing FF XIII either sadly because if I'm playing a game that is really involved (60 hours worth) I would like to have memorable characters. FF just seems like the kind of game that really should have memorable characters and a great story, I'm not criticizing those but I also base my opinions on games off of reviews because I can't really buy every game that releases.
That's awesome. These guys have every right to be cocky. When talking modern RPG's, Bioware and Bethesda are the BEST. Final Fantasy XIII went completely in the wrong direction and it is only going to hurt the franchise in the long run. It alienates the traditional core fanbase and can only find an audience among anime fans. (That's right Joe Juba, you know you're Game Informers go to guy for anime games) Final Fantasy doesn't even come close to Mass Effect 2 or Fallout 3. What those two games have in common is a world that you can actually explore. Oh yeah... and cool characters. Lightning or Commander Shepard? Don't even try to answer that.
Final Fantasy is so f-ing gay. I don't get why anyone likes it. A bunch of anime loving, basement dwelling nerds. Get a life.
Everyone is give the right to say what they want to do and not do however. To say that reviews made you change your mind about a game is sometimes bad. I could understand if every review you read was a bad one. But when it's a game like this where no one and I do mean no one can agree on it atleast give it a shot. At that point it's really about you and not the other person saying what's what about a game.
So if you ask me I think with Dragon Age: Awaking, releasing a week later after FF13 that his words may have been a bit bi-est.....I hope I spelled that right.
