The lights are on
As the mystery guest for GDC's final panel, Spore creator Will Wright came out of hiding to discuss leaving Electronic Arts, the game he's spent the most time with in his life, and a little thing he calls the "metaphysics of game development."
In typical Will Wright fashion, the speech featured quick-witted quips, a hilarious slide presentation, and an amalgam of insightful ideas. The wide-ranging topics he touched upon included embracing experimental creativity, using the game industry's perceived renegade status to push hot-topic buttons, and crafting interdisciplinary entertainment for a culture that is increasingly interested in blending its synthetic experiences with real life.
He began the discussion by making reference to his departure from EA, saying " I became an independent game designer with the Stupid Fun
Club, and when I told my mother she of course reminded me that means
Wright mentioned he has secret projects in the works at his new Stupid Fun Club studio, but neglected to touch on them during the speech. He did, however, mention he starts each day with a cup of coffee and a quick game of Advance Wars on the Nintendo DS. "It lets me relax while I spin up my brain," he remarked, saying that he's probably played the game more than any other title.

He's a really creative guy, and I should really pick up a copy of Advance Wars. The list of games I want to play rolls on...
wow that guys either going to be the next bill gates or hes a dangauresly insane human being lol
I wonder which advance wars he's playing
It's a shame Will Wright doesn't make games that interest me, because he's a really intelligent and funny guy. I've always enjoyed his appearances on G4. Come on Will, make an RPG or something!
Sometimes, I wish that Will Wright would make a surprise appearance in my pants; and I mean that in the best possible non-sexual way you can imagine. The man is brilliant, and I was pleased to see his departure from EA...his franchises were getting dangerously high on the exploit-o-meter, and I was starting to question my previously unflappable high regard for him. Now I can see that he'd have found my lack of faith disturbing...
Will Wright is awesome
Poor Will Wright, Spore was going to be amazing but it was dumbed down by the Big Wigs at Ea. If only he had gone with EA Partners, they don't interfere with game development, just release.
@LOL: That was dumb.
Anyway, Spore was the shiznit so I hope his secret work is just as good if not better
sims 3 for 360 please :<
I like this guy, do you think he meant dual strike or days of ruin?

When did he leave EA? Was this a while ago?
Heh, If Intelligent Systems, makers of the excellent Advanced Wars series, got wind that Wright is a big fan. Maybe they'll bring out another one soon.
That's too bad, oh well good luck with your other studio. And can't wait to see future projects.

I should follow his advice and start my day with videogame. A problem I forsee though is that I won't be able to stop and then my day would be shot.
