PlayStation Home Shutdown, Tooth Fairy Not Real
Game Informer's yearly April Fools' contribution is Game Infarcer – five pages of blatantly false news, previews, and features. Though each page is clearly marked "parody," there are always people who believe our fake reporting. This year was no exception – and the story about PlayStation Home's shutdown (on April 1st, no less) seems to have caused a bit of a ruckus among Home users.
Sony is not amused. In response to fan outcry, we got a call from a Sony representative this afternoon asking us to clarify that this was, in fact, not a true story. So, let me make it perfectly plain: The servers for PlayStation Home are not shutting down on April 1st. We were lying. If you fell for this, look carefully at the following clues:
1) Shutdown on April 1st. This is a big red flag, people.
2) It is in a section of the magazine called "Game Infarcer," complete with a fake cover and editor.
3) The word "parody" appears clearly directly beneath the story.
In other news, everything else in Game Infarcer is also not real. There is no Wii/DS hybrid console, nor is Visceral Games making an Assassin's Creed rip-off based on The Great Gatsby. If you want to read other fake news stories, be sure to check out the Game Infarcer feature in our April issue.
