The lights are on
Speaking on The Rumble Pack podcast, Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer admitted to the developer's interest in moving last year's Torchlight onto consoles. "We're going to put some serious effort into it – pretty quick – getting Torchlight onto consoles," he said. Schaefer went on to say that Runic is in talks with multiple partners to try to make it happen.Runic's first title, Torchlight received an enthusiastic critical reception. Its sales are hard to judge since the majority of them are through digital portals like Steam and GamersGate, which don't report numbers to aggregators like NPD Group. Clearly it has done reasonably well, though, if Runic is looking at getting it to a larger audience. For more Torchlight, check out some interesting Tidbits from the game's development, or see the development team's favorite mods for their game.

I wish my PC wasn't such a piece of crap so I could play some games on it. The biggest disadvantage to bringing it to consoles is how players won't be able to experience all the rich user created content for it, a lot of which you GI guys just featured.
I'm right there with you Matthew, my PC is god-awful for gaming. So I'm pretty excited that I'll finally get the chance to play this game, even without all those standard bonuses that come with playing on the PC.
Torchlight is one of the funnest games I've played in a long while. If they made a PSP port, I wouldn't go anywhere without it. Can't wait to see how this console thing will work out.
My pc cant play anything...(never get a dell). I dont play torchlight but this might make other pc games that I do like to consider making a console version.
@ Matthew LeTourneux
You know you can run Torchlight on a netbook right? Your PC would have to be a real piece of crap not to be able to play torchlight on it. You should probably download the demo and give it a try.
I am currently hooked on this game
Is it going to be a hardcopy release, or an online marketplace release for consoles?
This is great news! Well, if it indeed happens. I'll get this one in a second if it does.
I have been waiting for this kind of announcment - suhweet!
that would be cool, if it stayed $20
As great of a game as Torchlight is, I just don't think it would translate well to consoles. There is a chance that it would, but Runic would have to make it very different than when Blizzard tried to release Diablo for PSone...great game, awful version...I hope Runic can pull it off.
about time.
That's an awesome idea, I mean, as long as they have it all down and it works well with consoles then I would love to play it on my PS3.
i would like this on my consoles..
I played the demo for torchlight and loved it. Ultimately I didnt buy it, because it was laggy on my crappy laptop. This awesome news.
This would be uber awesome. I love playing Torchlight, but I am less and less inclined to be turning on my PC these days. It would be nice to get my console only friends to check it out as well.
Interesting comments...I thought I'd keep this "perspective" to myself, but I do enjoy some good "perspective" from time to time!
Torchlight is a WONDERFUL game, one I too will buy in a heartbeat. But dont think the "sleeping giant" this game was derived from, where two of Torchlight's creators came from and you can Google videos of Mircosoft sending BRINK ARMOR $$$ TRUCKS to this "sleeping giant" back door isnt up to something...Who is this company you ask? Oh the "sleeping giant" is called Blizzard...and even though there's no OFFICIAL announcement on Diablo 3 being on Xbox, WHY would BRINK Trucks from Microsoft be going there? And why would RUNIC want to get this port out so FAST? And you dont think that Blizzard hasnt had a meeting or two askign how they can duplicate World of Warcraft PC success on a MUCH LARGE CUSTOMER BASE, like the 360...and how long ago do you think they had that "premenition"??? Watch...
So I am calling it, when Diablo 3 releases, I say it will also have an exclusive XBOX 360 console tied to it, a HUGE media extravaganza!!! An exclusive deal wiht Mircosoft who up till then has told the industry "oh, we just cant do that business model for LIVE..." Yeah right...They are holding out for taht giant they've been feeding the Armor Trucks too! Can you imagine the $$$
Gentleman's beat anyone??? $1!
