Green Day: Rock Band Dated, Adds Harmonies To Old DLC

Harmonix and MTV Games have announced a June 8 release date for the upcoming Green Day: Rock Band. The standalone game includes 47 tracks that are fully exportable to Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and the recently announced Rock Band 3. Some of those songs include “Brain Stew,” “Jaded,” “Hitchin’ a Ride,” “American Idiot,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” There are also more than 100 images to unlock and 40 minutes of video from the band, including performances, outtakes and interviews.

Even if Green Day doesn't exactly float your boat, the announcement contains some information that Rock Band players might find interesting. Players can import six Green Day tracks into the game that are already available in the Rock Band music store. Once imported, those tracks will have vocal harmonies added to them, allowing three singers to wail out their favorite tunes. Harmonies were first introduced in the Beatles: Rock Band, and Green Day: Rock Band supports them as well. It's encouraging to learn that harmonies can apparently be added into songs at a later date. Does that mean Rock Band 3 will add harmonies to select songs that have been available as DLC before the game ships? We'll have to wait and see, but it seems as though it's at least a distinct possibility.

Green Day: Rock Band is set to release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

  • I know I'm definitely in the minority b/c I'm looking forward to this, but even I have to wonder why they didn't just go the AC/DC route and release a $30-$40 track pack.

  • @Mista Brightside: Because people are willing to drop $150 for the latest update to anything nowadays.

And I'm so tired of this genre of gaming, nothing revolutionary is being done anymore, it's getting old.

  • @ wynd.and.fury: I somewhat disagree with your comment.  Harmonies are pretty revolutionary, if you ask me.  The only game to have done this so far is Beatles, and it was met with moderate success.  Although, other than that, there really hasn't been anything amazing gameplay-wise.  RBN is great, but it doesn't affect gameplay, per se.

Here's to hoping I can get the booklet for the export code when I rent this!

  • Don't know what to think of this harmony thing yet. Seems like just another scheme to get people to buy more microphones.

  • Maybe I'll get this, the harmony support for old songs sounds sweet.

  • I'll pass on this, but the prospect of adding to older songs seems like a good idea. I'll wait to see what RB3 is like.

  • I'm sorry but Green Day is not that good of a band to get their Rock Band.

  • LINKIN PARK!! that is all.

    P. S.

    Gameinformer issue 204 Gameinfarcer HILARIOUS!!

  • I'm with ya Mista Brightside.  I know it's the minority but I looking forward to this aswell.

  • This 3 year old full band game genre is so old... guess that's not that old at all... I mean I just don't like it. I'll continue to tap the steering wheel and sing along to my music, but actually turning it into a real activity, come on!

I can't help but laugh at the naysayers of music games.

  • Harmonix needs to quit putting out so many Rock Band things. I'm getting tired of keeping up and and I'm still getting my money out of 2.

  • I still doubt this is going to be a good game. I would like to play the drum parts because they sound interesting but that doesn't warrant a purchase for me.

  • I'm excited! I like the fact that everything can be exported to Rock Band 2/3. I haven't gotten to try out the harmonies yet since I skipped The Beatles RB.

  • Really not looking forward to this. Green day is terrible.

  • to the people who say that the rhythm genre is the same old same old:

same can be said about EVERY OTHER VIDEO GAME GENRE!!!

  • Any tracks from their best album, "Kerplunk!"?

  • I was a huge fan of the music games when all the way up to RB then it just kind of subsided for me. I think everything became too easy and nothing cover a lot of the genres. Everything is the same old same old stuff everyone has heard of. The worst is the band specific games. If they want to spark my interest add more instruments and use more difficult songs from lesser known bands. Queensryche i have always wanted to see on a game but never have along with more power metal. Throw in some death metal and black metal too. pick some more 90s alternative and some blues as well. Go way into the genres and pick something from the thousands that are out there.

  • I want old shcool green day only the newer stuff isn't as great

  • Give me a Radiohead Rockband or Strokes. Bands that actually rock would be preferable

  • Green Day? Really? Harmonix, I've lost faith in you.
