PlayStation Home Getting Streamlined With Update 1.35

Sony has announced that PlayStation Home is getting updated tomorrow, adding a new navigator and reducing load times overall. According to the PlayStation Blog, version 1.35 has been created with the community in mind, and it addresses some of their biggest issues and concerns.

The new navigation breaks content down into handy categories, including user information such as favorite places, personal spaces and friends. An explore section makes it easier to browse the entirety of Home, and Sony can flag new and popular content through the recommend category.

The update will be going live tomorrow, and the service will be down temporarily during that period. Home’s load times were fairly long, and streamlining the overall interface is a wise move. Whether those tweaks are enough to get people who have shunned it so far remains to be seen. It’s certainly a great step, though.

  • Cool :)

  • Does anyone with a PS3 actually spend any time in Home?  I sure don't.    Sony should focus on features that gamers actually want like, I dunno.....cross-game chat, maybe?

  • I've played "Home" a few times, but not for any serious length of time. It can be a nice break from other games, but nothing I would ever play on a regular basis or become addicted to.

  • Hopefully this one won't bring about the ApoclayPS3 again.

  • I bought a ps3 for the games not to play Second Life.

    Home=Blah

  • I think Sony should just skip home and go with a really easy to use news hub.  Interviews, industry news, that sort of thing. Running around home isn't my idea of fun.

  • @ SightofTwilight--- Considering that the ApocalyPS3 was a leap year issue, it doesn't seem likely.

  • Still not going to use it.

  • I'm not a big fan of "Home", but considering how many people use it on a daily basis, Sony must be doing something right.

  • BTW-the avatar picture that was posted alongside this article kind of looks like TNA "wrestler" Jesse Neal. I use the term "wrestler" loosely, since Neal sucks something awful.

  • I think Home is a good idea, but I don't think it's implemented in a way that make people want to use it.  You can access anything in home from your PS3 main menu and PSN Store.  Everytime I went in there, poeple are just standing around using it as a chatroom.  Who the heck wants to chat using that crappy text input, anyway?  I'd rather be playing games, not chatting with other gamers through my PS3.  Any game's mulitplayer matchmaking beats Home for what I want my PS3 to do.

  • I don't go to Home much, but the few times I've been there, I've been amazed at how many people use it. What I've seen, Home has a LOT of potential. I will definitely revisit after this update.

  • @TJ: I agree that "Home" could use a revamping. It's more complicated than it needs to be, and you are right in that you can access just about everything in Home from PSN and the store.

  • How about a PS3 update instead? I don't like the bare-bones XMB. They can at least make it a bit more inviting. As it is now, it's just boring.

  • @Darnell: I also agree with you. I think the 360's format is overall a little more appealing, and Sony might be wise to format the PS3 in a similar way.

  • @ cougan

I agree. I couldn't say it better myself.

  • If only Sony could see the great ideas we are implying.

  • eh...i never saw the point of "home". Waste of hard drive space if you ask me.

  • does anyone actually use this?

  • Maybe this will give me enough incentive to give Home another go.
