The lights are on
Game Informer recently picked the brains of over 1,500 people* to find out what they thought of the music video game genre. Playing habits, what kinds of songs they buy, and what they're looking forward to in the genre are just some of the topics we covered in our music survey featured in the April issue of Game Informer (#204).
Some highlights:

LOL.
Sounds like music games have a future. Can't believe Guitar Hero edged out Rock Band though, I can't really see the advantages... except maybe that it's been around longer.
Aw, no love for the bassist? :-P
Prediction: Fanboys are going to whine about how Guitar Hero beat out Rock Band in the survey.
Well, at least the number of people who think the music genre isn't sufficiently represented is about the same size as the Sega Saturn's market share between '96-'98.
Music games are fun, but to be honest, I only played Guitar Heroes II and III before losing interest.
@Nickha0 - Is there really a fan war between guitar hero and rockband? Then again... I guess I wouldn't doubt it.
I personally own Rockband, but I've played Guitar Hero plenty and it seems to me that Rockband is a better game overall and offers more, especially with the introduction of RBN.
Guitar Hero beat Rock Band in the polls?
@nickha0
Great Prediction.
I personally have always enjoyed music games, but they have gotten a little stale over time. I would like to say that i have ideas on how they can improve them but i honestly caqnt think of ways that they can. I hope they find some way to bring the music genre back to life.
How epic does this sound?:
Guitar Hero: Lamb of God
Even more epic: Guitar Hero: Rock Band Edition
Rock Band>GH
I really thought Rock band was going to edge out GH but ohhh well, aside from that the survey revealed two things to me, People love the guitar (all other instruments can suck it) and most of the people that play arent obsessed freaks (most play on medium or easy)
Music in general is dead... it's like the 80s pt. 2.
I can't Believe Guitar Hero beat Rock Band.Consider me stunned.
@Aubreyneely
Are you saying that the 80s had bad music? I would strongly disagree. 80s music is what I listen to to escape music produced now. And I think you are overlooking some great, peerless bands from that time. Journey, for one. Granted, their music was better with Gregg Rolie, but their music in the 80s was amazing. Especially Steve Perry and Neal Schon. Truly amazing artists. And Bad Company. And REO Speedwagon. And... endless.
@Andrew
Bryan Vore, is that you?
What's the meaning of the title "is rock and roll dead" if you never even asked what genre they liked best?
@Matthew Kato
Nah, Andrew is my real name.
yeah that guy who said 80s music is bad, R.E.M., They Might Be Giants, The Replacements, and Megadeth would like to have a word with you
