The lights are on
EA has good news for those interested in interactive fitness; they plan to expand the popular Sports Active brand with the introduction of EA Sports Active 2.0. The facelift is significant this time around, more so than the addition of new workouts offered in the recent expansion.
Sports Active 2.0 will launch this fall for the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, iPhone and iPod touch. Aside from the diversified console roster, the biggest update is the hardware itself. Sports Active 2.0 now includes three sensors, one for the user’s leg and one for each arm. The sensor on the left arm is equipped with a heart rate monitor, which tracks your pulse live on screen. The Wii iteration forgoes the right arm monitor since the player uses the Wii Remote by default instead.
The additional sensors allow for more accurate stats and progress tracking, all of which will be compatible with an online hub. Here players will be able to monitor their progress, join workout groups and use other social features to encourage personal accountability.
EA is staying hush hush about how the iPhone and iPod touch versions will function, but we expect that they will be supplementary tracking tools as opposed to portable iterations of the game. EA also promises new environments to train in, new workouts and new drills.
Have any of you given EA Sports Active a go?
I'm as surprised as anyone, but EA Sports Active has actually helped me lose weight. If they can improve on that with 2.0 (and bring it to the PS3 as an added bonus), I'm 100% excited to try it again.
I might have to get this seeing as all these great Triple A releases have been coming out therefore leading me to sit on my A** and get fat.
Looks neat. Very curious to see how well it works. :)
I wonder how well it will work, as previously said. Interesting though. Wonder if it will be used with the Arc since it's coming out this fall...
I can't say I've tried it but at a time was thinking about getting it.
Cool!
Tired of paying gym membership fees... picking up a Wii for Monster Hunter Tri... I'm sure I'll be trying out the fitness elements eventually.
Sounds pretty sweet. I liked the Wii version, and I'm definitely game for a deeper sequel. Maybe it's for the best that there's no 360 version announced. I'd probably give myself a heart attack grinding out Achievements...
I've never even heard of this.
@ Jeff: I lawl'd
I actually just picked up the original version a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed it. It gives much better feedback than Wii Fit (probably because of the leg sensor) and it has a faster pace to the workout.
Sometimes the cord between the nunchuck and wiimote does get in the way, so independent leg monitor is a good idea IMHO.
It will be fun to earn PS3 trophies for losing weight. :)
i like it. this actually looks like they are trying.
wow
This is crap! I'll stick to your shape! I like working out with Jenny McCarthy and plus i don't want anymore accessories
I'm excited about this expansion, I use the Sports Active quite regularly, and these improvements sound like a great step foreward, now they just need to add a resistance band that actually has resistance, trying to use the ones you can buy just doesn't work that well while trying to hold the remote and nunchuck.
Prediction: The Xbox 360 version wasn't announced because EA will reveal a version at E3 that supports Natal.
If I'm wrong... pretend I never wrote that. I'm sick, so cut me some slack.
My treadmill is the biggest reason I'm still in shape, now if that breaks, it's all downhill from there. I'll count this as my backup then.
