Rock Band 3 Coming This Holiday Season

Are you getting a little bored with Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Lego Rock Band and the Beatles: Rock Band? Good! Harmonix has just announced that Rock Band 3 is on its way this holiday season. Here’s what the developer had to say on its Facebook page:

Rock Band Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!

Oh, what a tease. If only someone working on the game had a big mouth and revealed at least a little info about the game. Wait, someone did! Back in November, Dhani Harrison mentioned that he was involved in Rock Band 3. More interestingly, he mentioned that the next iteration was inching closer to the goal outlaid by Alex Rigopoulos back before the first Rock Band launched.

“I'm working on Rock Band 3 and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game,” Harrison said to the Chicago Tribune. “Give me a couple years, it's going to happen.”

It’s going to happen all right, but the question is, will Harmonix get there first?

  • Do we really need another rock band this soon?  Maybe I would be excited if there weren't 15 iterations of the same title.

btw (insert sophmoric "first" post here)

  • I get it now. Their business model is to break our spirits with releases, spin-offs, and DLC until we're so weathered and hollowed that we know nothing of what we used to want. All we know is that it's some kind of instinct. A memory of what we used to do. This was an important game in our lives.

  • bout time!  can't wait!

  • We've known about this for a long time, but glad to see it's finally official.

  • Mod

I hope it revolutionizes the music genre. We really need something different.

  • This one better come with an inflatible groupie if they expect people to waste their entire lives playing fake musical instruments.

  • seeing as how they have probably been working on it for a while already, it may just be amazing.

  • I don't even remember that feeling of excitement Rock Band used to give me. The real instrument angle is cool, but unfortunately I just don't care.

  • Music games are old now. I learned to play guitar since Guitar Hero III already and play pretty well.

  • ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????????????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!  ARE KIDDING ME "JUST ANNOUNCED"  THEY ANNOUNCED 2 MONTHS AGO

  • @ TJ

what about people who play world of warcraft most of there lives huh, are you going to trash them to. Listen video games are all about entertainment and having fun and music is one the best ways to have fun, so if you dont like music games dont comment on an article about a FREAKIN MUSIC GAME.

  • Hm, didn't Rock Band 2 come out no less then two years ago? Either way I'm kinda tired of the music genre, might get it if I have people over but other then that it is a pass.

  • Looking forward to it. I just can't seem to get tired of Rock Band.

  • Waaaah, too many music games! So many! And no, I don't play them!

So first off, I've said it before, I'll say it again... if you're not into it, stop wasting your time worrying about it. The money that goes into the development of these music games, as well as the talent that makes it happen - is there to stay. They won't suddenly say "You know, I've heard general unfounded complaints for the LAST TIME! I'm going to transfer to Studio X to make the next "Your favorite game".

Second, as for those who at one point did play music games and have since quit, that's usually Guitar Hero players, you do realize that Rock Band has had a total of 4 full console games released so far, over 3 years. Guitar Hero, 10 games over 5 years. 1.33 < 2.0.

Anyhow, for those of you who so love to interject a negative opinion of something amongst fans of that particular thing... why not go to your local sports bar and tell everyone their how much you hate sports and why. Take your ambition and turn it into something!

  • wait, i thought dhani harrison had little involvement in rock band 3.

  • i knew rock band 3 would come eventually. but rock band 2 still plays like a charm and the release of dlc every week is still unmatched.

  • I am definitely not as enthusiastic about new music games as I used to be, but I still enjoy the really good ones. DJ Hero and The Beatles: Rock Band were both very good. If this was Guitar Hero, I probably wouldn't care, but because its Harmonix working on a new game, I can't help but a little excited. That developing team will always have a special place in my gamer heart.

  • i dont give a crap. Why should there be a new rock band with one that came out in October?? shameless. just shameless.

  • Hopefully they aren't just gonna milk the franchise for cash like GH...

  • Looking forward to hearing about what the title has to offer. A graphical and UI upgrade along with the elimination of loading would be glorious enough though as long as the setlist is also great.
