New Sims 3 Expansion Is Ambitious

by Joe Juba on Mar 04, 2010 at 06:10 AM

Has your sim already become a sports superstar, acclaimed author, and a criminal mastermind? The newest expansion for The Sims 3, entitled Ambitions, will allow players to explore even more career paths while controlling their sims on the job.

New career options include (but aren't limited to) inventor, ghost hunter, detective, sculptor, and detective. Along with the new jobs, you'll also follow your sim to work instead of just watching them disappear into a building. Your actions will have an impact on your sim's daily life, and you'll even be allowed to decide whether you work for good or evil. Ambitions won't incorporate a full morality system or anything, but I'm particularly intrigued by this line from the press release: "Players can opt to make house calls and save lives as a doctor or choose the devious route and test experimental medicine on patients, be the hero firefighter tackling raging infernos or smashing everything in sight at the victim’s home with an axe." Oh, yeah.

Considering that the Sims franchise has seen dozens of expansions over its 10-year lifespan, no one should be surprised to see the trend continue. I like the fact that EA continues to support The Sims so aggressively, but I tend to find that once an expansion rolls around, I've usually moved on to other things. What about you? Do you play The Sims expansions?
