More Steam About Steam For Mac

The web has recently been abuzz about Valve's digital distribution channel, Steam, coming to Macs, and the latest indications from the company seem pretty clear.

"In anticipation of an upcoming announcement," Valve has released these images showing characters from some of its titles with seeming Mac iconography. The most obvious being the shot merging Portal and Team Fortress turrets with Apple's famous "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" TV ad campaign. Half-Life's Gordan Freeman is showing in an iMac pastels-colored suit with what looks to be an Apple logo on his chest, while a Team Fortress 2 Heavy is captured as an iPod silhouette. Finally, Macworld has one of Alyx Vance replicated the old 1984 Mac commercial, and Rock, Paper Shotgun has one of an old Mac print ad with the Steam logo.

Mac gaming is pretty much a joke, so Steam coming to Macs would be a pretty hefty infusion of great games for their OS. The problem is, anyone who knows about Valve's games probably already is a PC gamer, or at least has played these titles on the Xbox 360. Anyone a Mac gamer/owner who hasn't played these titles? Regardless, it's good that OSX owners will get quality titles from Valve and other Steam partners.

  • Anyone know where I can get a 1900x1080 verson of these pictures. Where did these pictures come from?

  • This will be cool I have always been leary about buying a Mac but this could change one of my biggest issues

  • My MacBook Pro approves this.

  • This is huge to me. When I left PC for my MBP, the biggest concern I had was losing Steam. "The Orange Box will get me through," I said. I will *gladly* give Valve all my money again for L4D, L4D2, TF2, and Portal on a computer platform. Cheers, Valve. :)

  • I dont even own a mac so this news doesnt really concern or interest me, but it is good that now even mac users will get to enjoy some of valves games

  • Well that destroys the PC's biggest advantage over Macs, but it's good that they're finally getting Steam...I guess.

  • Ha, the turret analogy is so apt. The engineer's turret is upgradeable, and is not easily knocked over.

  • I haven't played many of Valve's popular titles and I have a Mac, so this is sweet.

  • Double post; I fail

  • Their really expanding aren't they? I remember seeing an article a few weeks ago here on GI to see if L4D is coming to PS3? Even though Valve had issues with them or something relative to that in the past I guess they decided it was time since its gaining some momentum now... I feel like this is something similar because of the Apple rampage over the recent years. Valve always does everything right haha :P

  • www.xfire.com/.../2393cf  NEW PORTAL ENDING! Why aren't you on top of this GI?!!!

  • Portal on my mac would be great.

  • Can any one tell me why MAC is considered to be so much better. this is a real question not a bash on MAC, I'm just wondering? thanks
