The lights are on
Activision and Infinity Ward have made headlines over the last few hours starting with the sudden departure of IW studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West later followed by claims of insubordination and talks with rival publishers. With all the chaos that's ensued, the question on everyone's mind is: What's going to happen to Call of Duty?
We have finally received official word from Activision that details future plans for the franchise. It has been confirmed that Zampella and West are no longer with the studio. Activision's chief technology officer Steve Pierce and head of production Steve Ackrich will lead the studio on an interim basis. In addition, a new Call of Duty game has been announced for a 2011 release with no word on Infinity Ward's involvement. Sledgehammer Games, led by Glen A. Schofield and Michael Condrey of Dead Space fame, will develop a new action-adventure title in the Call of Duty franchise.
In addition, Activision has announced a new Treyarch-developed Call of Duty title to release this fall. Finally, the long-awaited DLC for Modern Warfare 2 is currently under Infinity Ward's development with no set release date for the two map packs.
"2010 will be another important year for the Call of Duty franchise," stated Mike Griffith, president and CEO of Activision Publishing. "In addition to continued catalog sales, new downloadable content from Infinity Ward and a new Call of Duty release, we are excited about the opportunity to bring the franchise to new geographies, genres and players."
What are your thoughts on the future of the franchise?
In case you missed all the events prior to the announcement, catch up here.
you guys at activision are retards, u can't actually think handing the franchise that IW has pampered and kept great all these years is now going over to a fan of Dead Space, Sledgehammer Games!!! WTF Activision, if I didn't already hate u enough, I guess Call of Duty is dead, and all Activision cares about is there *** money, this is a sad day for one of the most venerable series in shooters ever, well unless IW comes back to the gears eventually, I guess we'll all have to wait for another amazing shooter Brink? or just go back to Halo and Battlefield, this is a terrible day for an amazing franchise
I still have my respect for Activision. I really don't care if a publisher or developer does something like this.
No Infinity Ward. No COD for me ... this blows.
Unbelievable.. At least it will be interesteing to see how the new studio will handle it.
The good news is that this means a potentially AAA new franchise. the bad news is that activision will continue to prosper on someone else's idea until CoD has been killed by too many titles
I will not buy any more call of duty games from Activision because they are killing the game by coming out with way to many of them. Treyarch sucks and i hope Infinity Ward can get the hell out of there with thier Modern Warfare title and other good stuff they got going.
well, i guess im not buying COD anymore
Note to Activision: Infinity Ward made you a lot of money with MW2..... just giving you the heads up
Hm. I guess it's back to Medal of Honor.
I'm so exited.
So long CoD, it was nice knowing you, but Treyarch definitely can't put out a title of Infinity Ward quality...bad call Activision.
Action/Adventure Call of Duty? (Crawls to corner and cries while cussing out Activsion).
Well were screwed. IW's CoD releases were always the good ones, now were just going to be left with pale imitations of a series that used to be great.
Call of Duty is officially screwed.
So, they're admitting defeat?
That's what I was thinking too. I'm surprised nobody else picked up on that... Activision is killing franchises faster than EA did back in the day.
so does this mean the fanboys of CoD can finally get a life?
yeah let's hold on to the people at infinity ward who created mw2, the fps with the worst maps ever made, akimbo shotguns that don't need to be aimed but kill you quicker with longer range than the sniper rifles, and creating perks that allow idiots to run at 500 mph and knife people from 3 billion feet away while being shot. (because in a First Person SHOOTER you should be running around KNIFING.) Look IW created a great franchise but their last entry has huge problems, no dedicated servers, and is generally disappointing. Instead of jumping on Activision for making changes, maybe you should consider the possibility that Activision has seen the problems with MW2 and is attempting to correct them. Instead you people jump on the bandwagon and continue to b*tch about Activision. Stop buying their games, and stop complaining about them.
