Plants Vs. Zombies Sells Over 300,000 For iPhone Launch

by Tim Turi on Feb 25, 2010 at 04:29 AM

Once a zombie sinks its teeth into its first victim, the undead infection spreads like wildfire. Such is the case with the iPhone and iPod Touch version of PopCap’s Plants vs. Zombies, which released February 15. In a mere nine days on the market, over 300,000 iPhones have contracted the game. Even more impressive, the game became the top-grossing iPhone launch ever within 24 hours of its release.

“Plants vs. Zombies is our latest major franchise to make the jump to iPhone, and from the early customer and critical feedback it appears to be a great adaptation of the game,” said Andrew Stein, PopCap‘s director of mobile business development. “There's always a concern when bringing a computer game to a mobile, pocket-sized device that something will get lost in the process, but in this case the overwhelming consensus is that Plants vs. Zombies is even more fun on the smaller touch screen!"

The iPhone’s version of Plants vs. Zombies has been lauded as even better than the original. Features like touch screen control and portability lent perfectly to the game’s addicting format. Now the battle between fauna and their foe can continue on the go.

From what I’ve played of the iPhone version of Plants vs. Zombies, it’s the exact same brilliant game. Adorably zombie and plant sprites look great on the smaller screen. At no point did the occasionally touchy iPhone touch screen result in my brains being devoured.

Congratulations to PopCap for the continued success of a great game. Have you downloaded Plants vs. Zombies for your iPhone?
