The lights are on
Just like any good horror movie villain, as soon as you begin to think that Splatterhouse is down for good, it rises again like a blood-soaked phoenix. It's been quite some while since we heard anything about the Namco Bandai (formerly Bottle Rocket)-developed title, but now we have some gory new screens shots and art to sink our teeth into. Check out Rick in all his hockey mask-wearing, monster-punching glory.
Judging by the screens, you're constantly going to have your fist buried up to the shoulder in the faces of your abominable foes. These mutated enemies are the product of Dr. West's evil experiments, which are now running amok in his dilapidated mansion. Where things get really messy is that Rick's girlfriend, Jennifer, was last seen entering said mansion. This is where Rick's "Terror Mask" will come in handy, allowing him to transform into a 'roided out hulk and maim his way to the love of his life.
Expect Splatterhouse to be available in Q3 of 2010 for the 360 and PS3. Here's hoping the game can dodge a return trip to development hell.

On paper, it sounds like a bloody good time, and I'm excited to see a video of it. However, something seems a bit wrong just seeing pictures of it. I can't quite put my finger on it... But something about it is just, well, off :-/
I'm thinking this looks like a definite maybe. Hope it's not just another new age beat-em-up; I doubt if it would be on the level of GoW/Ninja Gaiden/Bayonetta, and I don't really like those games (too one dimensional, though the first xbox NG was good).
I was wondering what happened to this game. So are there no weapons at all? You just punch all *** day?
I can't say ***?
Man, I cannot wait for this game!! I loved the original, and this one looking great. Joshua, to answer your question, there are weapons in the game. The developers have confirmed 2x4s, shotguns, cleavers, and chainsaws so far.
It looks interesting, maybe something I would give a try.
The game might get a little boring if you're only using your fist. I hate redundancy.....
Awesome, I am a fan of the TG-16 original. Can't wait for this to release.
Cell shaded? Looks like Borderlands on a bad acid trip or something (kinda). Might be fun. I did like the original.
I still can't get over the fact that your character is a shirtless John Cena stunt double with a hockey mask on. Am I really lead to believe that this game will be good just from these screens? I'm sorry for all the Splatterhouse fans out there for hating on this game but, come on people this title looks like an XBLA or even PSN release, not a full blown $60 title.
Looks delicious.
This game is going to be F-U-N!
Jonh Jones, you don't HAVE to buy the game. The screenshots alone don't gaurentee that the game will be great, but it definately proves that the cost to make the game puts it above XBLA or PSN network status.
I for one, having played the original on NES, am thrilled about the remake. Will gladly preorder for all the perks (hopefully the original game!).
im just so baffled by these photos
All there is for weapons are your hands? Or is a Prototype-esque combat system?
In each combat picture, he is literally doing the SAME PUNCH MOVE over and over again! Look at the two last pictures on the bottom right of the selection.
hmm looks interesting. a worth while rent non the less.
This has been in my Gamefly queue since it was announced. Nice to see some progress on it.
Hoping for the best. Ripping this game out of Bottlerocket's hands was a stupid, stupid move, and even IF it turns out good, it'll likely fail due to "Bionic Commando syndrome". Y'know, when gamers greet a title with the response, "Pfft. I thought that came out already, like a year ago".
That being said, Namco DID basically give it back to Bottlerocket. Or at least, ex-Bottlerocket employees, since their crappy Afro Samurai team couldn't make sense of our advanced western game technologies and pipelines (which is why a lot of Japan is struggling with this generation; they make games completely differently, in a much less efficient way, generally).
And PLAY Magazine's post-developer reshuffling preview did make it sounds great. For example, they replaced some enemies because they weren't playing well. They upped the speed of the game considerably, and got rid of all the QTE's. Which means finding a way to do all that cool stuff within the combat engine. It SOUNDS like it'll be great. Here's hoping. The beginning half of 2010 has some amazing action adventures in Darksiders, Bayonetta, Dante's Inferno and God of War III. The second half will have Splatterhouse and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. They have a lot to live up to. Good luck to 'em.
