Nintendo DS 2 With Tilt Function On The Way?

by Annette Gonzalez on Feb 17, 2010 at 01:10 PM

Ah, yes. The Nintendo rumor mill has turned out another interesting piece of news that may interest gamers on the go, this time regarding the elusive Nintendo DS 2.

Word on the street is DS 2 development kits are getting in the hands of select devs in Japan, and get this, the handheld includes motion-sensing capabilities. Could this be the new console Miyamoto mentioned at the Japan Media Arts Festival a few weeks ago?

It seems one of the more well-publicized teams working with the dev kit is The Pokémon Company. Recently there has been word of a new Pokémon game on the horizon that is set to exceed every other Pokémon RPG released until now. We wonder if it is being developed for this unannounced piece of hardware.

An insider that has allegedly worked with the DS 2 told CVG, "It's genuinely the best thing I think I've ever worked with. I can tell you that it's got a 'tilt' function that's not dissimilar to iPhone, but does a lot more. We know that The Pokémon Company are getting special attention with it."

So when will we finally get an announcement?! The source said he didn't expect the hardware to be shown at GDC, which is only a few weeks away.

"Any kind of March announcement wouldn't fit with the timeline I understand the second DS to be on," he added. E3 perhaps?

In conclusion, there may or may not be a true DS successor (none of this Lite or XL business) on its way featuring some sort of Pokémon tilt action. Do you think the market is ready for a new Nintendo handheld?
