GI Interviews Peter Molyneux

At the X10 event, I had the chance to sit down with Peter Molyneux and discuss Fable III. As always with Peter, he was enthusiastic about the title and had a lot to say about the changes coming to the series. Take a look at the video below for the interview.

  • Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll stick to JRPGs.

  • The weapon morphing system sounds pretty cool but I want to see a better story this time around. I don't realistically see this series becoming as plot heavy as Mass Effect but throw in a couple more twists and turns in the story.

I'll probably end up liking this game in the end but Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, and FFXIII have set the RPG bar incredibly high.

  • Molyneux always gets me jazzed about his next game (even if end up dissapointed somehow). I wasn't sold here, but this interview piqued my interest for the title.

On an unrealted note, the new Game Informer 2.1 video player is pretty cool, I like the revisions.

  • So how would this game be classified exactly?

  • I am reasonably I'll love this for precisely the reasons Shatterhand and others diss it for. The whole idea is that it is a really in-depth playable fairy tale. I love that aspect to it and don't want to see it made too complicated. Good guys and bad guys, evil wizards, heroic quests, mystical treasures...sometimes you really don't need anything else.

  • The weapon morphing is an interesting take, if all goes well, it will be very cool.

I can wait for this game though...

  • He must be high with all those incredibly strange new elements. Gamerscore effecting your sword? Did anyone ask for that? I love how he says he wants a unique leveling system and then introduces the groundbreaking "followers" system. Yeah that really blew my mind. I think he just gets off on being different, no matter what the cost to his fans.

  • @Shatterhand

Umm eww JRPGs? That is the lowest most Cliched form of entertainment ever(fact not just opinion based on, I said so law). I have NEVER EVER EVER finished ANY JRPG I got tired of the ridiculous characters and annoying voices and the extreme linearity (ramble ramble) Inshort JRPGs are the reason that the Japanese Gaming industry is dying and out of ideas

NO I DO NOT WANT SORA TO DANCE TO UNDER THE SEA AS OPPOSED TO GUTTING URSULA WHY SQUENIX WHY!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fable three sounds like it will be differentiating itself from Fable one and two; but only in slight aspects. From what we can infer, it will play on an increased level of interactivity; hence holding your lovers (or child's) hand while walking through a town. Also, marrying another hero?! WIN!

Peter Molyneux has me sold simply by his creativity. Sure, crafting your own weapon has already been done, but it's not the fact that it's been done, it's the way that it's done itself. I honestly can't wait to make a weapon for my friends.

In a nutshell, Fable 3 may take a small alternative route than its predecessors it will definitely be a superb game.

  • @ Shatterhand yay JRPGs!! I'd rather play them then fable

  • Oh.. Man this guy can talk. I've learned nothing from the interview; expect the same usual fable but with more expanded options. Im still interested no the less. At least it ain't going to the Natal, lmao!

  • got off the fable promise bus a few stops ago. prove me wrong pete, ***

  • Staff

I always enjoy listening to Peter talk games.

  • Great interview Game informer. Thanks : )

  • Wow, Peter sure comes off differently in person rather than on paper. As soon as I see Molyneux's name I tend to get skeptical, but he really has a way of selling his vision to you. I really hope that he manages to pull it all off. I think there's some really good games floating around, unrealized in Molyneux's head.

  • Fable 3 looks great, and JRPG's really? Those games bring the gaming industry to shame...

  • ha, dont you guys know that Peter molyneux is the master of lying. I think this will be just like Fable 1, and Fable 2, a bunch of broken promises.......Dont get me wrong the games were AMAZING, but Petey boy needs to learn to tell the truth

  • ive learned over the years to never listen to anything that guy says, cause he does nothing but exaggerate and misrepresent the features of his own games.  im gonna just rent fable 3 and go into it without any of the impossible expectations he usually places on his games, making them seem much worse then they might actually be simply because they do not accomplish what its own creator claimed it would.

you can claim you can turn water into wine, but if it turns out you can only turn water into warm ale, people are gonna be disappointed.  its still a feat worth recognition, but with all those false expectations it seems like just a big slap in the face lie.

  • I enjoy the Fable games; but I highly dislike hearing this man describe the new portions before hand.  This guys every expression is propaganda.

  • thnk god my second fav game coming out in the future (: glad thngs got cleared up with the bad news
