The lights are on
We didn’t have to wait long for official news to break after yesterday’s rumor mill started turning. Ubisoft officially unveiled Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier early this morning. In development at Ubisoft’s Paris studio, the newest installment of the tactical shooter franchise is slated to release holiday of 2010. After all the teasing via Twitter, we were hoping for a few tangible details. Sadly, aside from the official logo we’ve got little in the way of concrete information to report. Ubisoft promises that Future Soldier will include “cutting-edge technology, prototype high-tech weaponry, and state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes.” Ubisoft also pledges a “fresh” gameplay experience, hoping to reignite excitement in longtime fans and introduce newcomers to the franchise. Continuing the conversation on Twitter after the announcement this morning, community developer Kimi Matsuzak addressed console details for curious fans, confirming that PS3 and 360 versions will hit retail simultaneously. She also revealed that details on the PC version will come at a later date. The last tidbit of information we’ve been afforded is that gamers will have a chance to play Future Soldier via a multiplayer beta this summer. The beta invite will be packaged with customers who nab Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction when it drops in April.
Great news! I love this franchise.
Hopefully they will make the controls a little less wonky though I felt Ubisoft improved the controls greatly in GRAW 2. Other than that, I have no gripes and am really looking forward to this. Now, if we could get another Rainbow Six I would be set for my tactical shooters for this year.
darn the beta only comes with splinter cell
Horrible news! I hate this franchise! Playful mockery aside, really though - this game hasn't been what it could be since it dropped the real world hooks back on the xbox versions and went for futuristic instead. To me, it really feels void of personality, even though it's obvious they tried to inject it with some by giving the players names. It's just far more appealing sneaking around a jungle taking out guards and working your way into a base than it is going guns blazing like every other shooter franchise. Homogenization, anyone?
will it have a playable campaign this time without recycled trash? I don't turn on MW2 to raid Normandy, so why should i play AW2 to play Nowhere?
OMG!!!! It's about *** time. My comments have been answered. Please give me some news on the next Rainbow Six.
If it's actually an improvement on the pace of the game than I might pay attention...the first one was too slow with rather annoying controls, didn't bother with the second for that reason...
Awesome, cant wait to play it. This was the only game were (for me) i LOVED the online it was so much fun. Cant wait to see what changes they made to it, i hope its for the better and with a lot of new maps
I have been a big fan of this franchise since the beginning and it's good to finally get some news. Now if Valve says something about HL2:E3/HL3 then all my gaming mysteries will be solved.
cant wait for this one!!!
this is good news but i will just say we are being overwhelmed by modern warfare games. what do u think
Although my "games to play" list is about 12 deep right now, I still feel bad every time I am reminded of my skipping over most Tom Clancy titles. I've dabbled in the earlier stuff... Rainbow Six classic, last gen Splinter Cell and GRAW2, all of which yielded very little enjoyment for whatever reason. I played a bit of Rainbow Six Vegas as well, and that felt pretty solid, but alas I didn't stick with that either.
Will it be possible for me to pick up and play the new entries in these franchises? I imagine Splinter Cell has a lot of back story, so that will be a no - but the rest should be ok right?
THIS SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD REASON TO BUY SPLINTER CELL!
so its gonna be Ghost Recon but with laser guns? sounds cool to me
good news bad news who really cares splinter cell and rainbow six made this franchise so there you have it
Hope the multiplayer is awesome.
Good thing too. I was wanting to pre order splinter cell conviction
I'm going to have to agree with Matthew LeTourneux, Ghost Recon is simply not what it used to be, it seriously got too futuristic for my tastes. IMO, the only one I enjoyed was the original title for Xbox, that game had such a tactical edge to it that I think future titles missed. But I'm always willing to give games a chance, so I still will follow this one and hope for the best.
Here we go!
