The lights are on
EA executives dropped the news that BioWare's Star Wars MMORPG is expected to ship in fiscal 2011 in a conference call with investors. This puts the release in April at the earliest, and clarifies the original "Spring 2011" launch window.CEO John Riccitiello noted that while the game will hopefully be a profitable venture, EA's cash flow is running slow right now. "MMOs can cost as much as two to six, seven times as much as a front-line title, if they’re done right.... It is a major investment for us."The trailer that EA showed at last year's E3, while impressive, had a higher budget than many full-fledged games (no, I'm not exaggerating). Are all those truckloads of money going to result in the kind of game that we've been hoping for? Are you going to drop your current MMO, or take your first dip into the genre, when The Old Republic finally comes out?

My buddy has been waiting forever for this game
I've never played a MMORPG because my computer sucks. But I love Star Wars and hopefully be able to get a new one by then for that and Star Trek. Wish they would bring another KOTOR for the console though.
Cool. So if I don't buy it both EA and Bioware might collapse? I'm glad I was planning on not buying it.
This game has vast potential. I wonder how it pans out for all involved. Certainly no way I'd drop my current ( at the time ) MMO for it ( which will be FFXIV ) but I may sample it. If its anything like the 1player console games its something to look out for.
i hope its on the consoles when released which probably will never happen. figures.
I will probably take a month off from WoW (or at least spend less time with WoW) while I try this game out. As far as I'm concerned, this game has a month to impress me before I make a final decision. I have high hopes, but to be honest, it has its work ahead of it if it wants to pull me away from WoW.
star wars ftw
that sucks.
*yawn*
Wake me up when KOTOR 3 comes out...
man come on just choose a release date already
I bet this comes out before StarCraft II.
ive never played an mmo before but i trust bioware so im going to go ahead and take a bite. wont know if ill stay on board until i actually play it though. but if anyone can get me into an mmo, its bioware. especially considering its the sequel to my favorite original xbox games.
I would love to play this game, and I may when it comes out, but you got to invest a lot of time in an MMO for the purchase to be worthwhile.
ahhhh what?! I want it now!
On PC?....I never really liked MMO's on PC unless they were all about the mythical made up stuff.
wow
come on now this is gettin ridiculous
Probably gonna get this and Guild Wars 2 when it comes out. This will be my first MMORPG. So I hope it is really good. Star Wars don't fail me!
John Ricitiello doesn't always say things that I agree with, but in this case, the man knows MMOs. Clearly. He sees why MMOs are difficult to bring to market, and he likely recognizes a lack of refinement at launch as a significant reason why every MMO that has had to jockey with WoW has basically failed. Most importantly though, he underscores the fact that MMOs, when managed properly, take a lot of time, energy and resources. They're going to make sure they get this one right, I have a good feeling. While not seeing TOR for at least another year is saddening news on some level, I have to say that I couldn't support the wisdom of their decision any more enthusiastically.
