The lights are on
As more and more investor calls with big name publishers roll out, so too does the high-quality information. Ubisoft’s latest earnings call reveals details on Assassin’s Creed II’s performance, and also where the next entry in the series takes place.Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that 8 million copies of Assassin’s Creed II have been shipped since its release in November. For reference, it took the original Assassin’s Creed 18 months to sell the same number of units. For this reason, Ubisoft is eager to get a follow-up out the door.Speaking of which, the next (and currently unnamed) installment is going to be set in Rome with Ezio running all over the place and stabbing more people. "This time, [Ezio] will strike directly against the templar's order in Rome," said Guillemot. Since the game will continue to focus on Ezio – and not a new member of Desmond's lineage – there's a good chance that the next entry will sport a name other than Assassin's Creed III. After all, in terms of the series' overarching story, Ezio appears to have largely fulfilled his role by the end of Assassin's Creed II. Does another Assassin’s Creed in 2010 sound like a good deal to you? Or does it sound like a great deal?Source: Joystiq

Sounds to me like this should be a DLC, not full retail release.
nope, that's a bad deal...
That sounds great and all, but I'd rather a return to Altair. His story is far more interesting that Ezio's, but more Assassins Creed is good anyways.
Idk, i was kind of hoping for a whole new character and area to explore, but i have faith.
Hell no! A DLC maybe!
If Ubisoft isnt going to take the time to make a new character, just make Rome and put it out as an add-on that Ezio can go to. I would buy that!
good, i think i'll quite enjoy exploring the parthenon in this new gooey dlc!
Sounds amazing! I was just thinking last night that I wanted to bet my friends that the follow-up would be set in Rome. After all, the Colosseum alone would be hard to depict. I figured that, with Florence and Venice, Rome would have just been too much work for AC2. Study a little history and geography to understand why. An entire game could be based on Rome. Now I just cannot wait. The history geek in me is flailing.
So are they talking spin off or sequel?
wait its not dlc? wtf?
Seems a little soon. If they plan on getting it out the door for this holiday season there will most certainly be corners cut somewhere which will affect gameplay.
These guys don't seem to realize...Rome probably wouldn't fit in a DLC.
I want to see Assassin's Creed in the modern world. That what the second one seemed to be leading up to.
I don't see an issue with them releasing another full-fledged title which follows Ezio as the main character, so long as it really is a full-fledged title. I don't want them to release four or five hours of game-play and call it a full game, when that could easily just be new DLC. And, if they do release a new title, I want it to really be a vehicle to expand on the story, because while the gameplay is exellent, I really care a lot about the story. I don't want to just run around killing people -- I want to know WHY this particular section of Ezio's life is important, and how it fits in with the grand plot of Assassin's Creed.
In personal communication with Corey May, one of the writers for the series, he explained that there is still -a lot- to the story that they could explore before Assassins Creed III, but whether or not they get to is always going to be decided by whether or not they ahve enough time, and whether or not they have enough money. As long as this upcoming chapter of Ezio's life expands on the story in a really meaningful way, and as long as the solid gameplay from ACII is there (or even improve), I'm all for it.
the game will probably have multiplayer because ubisoft did say something like that and this game should be full retail price if it does contain as much gameplay and quality as ac2, but people might want a different character than ezio. i think of it as assassins creed 2 part 2
They aleady did Italy...come on Ubisoft take this game else where like Spain or Egypt?
great deal
It could turn out well, but I'd rather them not break from their mold until done with AC3. Just stick to the plan.
if it's $40 or below i might consider it. it's just a little too soon for a follow up for me.
