The lights are on
Gamers eagerly awaiting Konami’s return to the Sparkster/ Rocket Knight Adventures series are in luck. It was announced awhile ago that the old school 2D sidescroller is getting an HD update for the downloadable market (PSN, XBLA, Steam), but now we have some awesome character to sink our teeth into.Konami is promising all the rocket-fueled action from the original Rocket Knight games, plus new surprises. Sparkster will blast through new worlds in an effort to destroy the nasty wolf army. The opossum’s classic tail-hanging move also returns, allowing him to slide down rails and dodge obstacles. Expect the game to hit platforms in 2010.Here we see the man himself, Sparkster, in all his 90’s-video-game-character-with-a-little-sly-smirk glory.Next up is his apparent rival, Axel Gear, who has taken Sparkster’s place during his absence. Looks pretty shady if you ask us.Here we see Axel alongside General Sweinhart as he gives an intense speech to the Zephyrians.
Anybody remember these games? How about how challenging they were?

Oh man! I loved the first game! I can't wait for this.
Of all the mascot platformers to bring back... was Clockwork Knight busy or something?
I'm just messin', RK is dope. Now how about a Bushido Blade remake?
The more I see, the more I love! Cannot wait for this game!
What about Bubsy and Aero the Acrobat?!?awww mannnn...
I remember renting Rocket Knight for Genesis way back then. I never got to beat it. So glad that Blockbusters 3 day rentals are a thing of the past. GameFly ftw! I'm looking forward to playing this remake.
Haven't heard of the series, but based on the explanation it sounds like it could be a lot of fun.
Might consider picking this one up.
Looks good. I loved the first game game and I can't wait for this
WOW! Can't wait. Any idea of a release date?
I can't believe it! Ever since they made the Sparkster game I've been dying for another one! One of my fave Genesis games. Now we need a new legit Shining Force or Phantasy Star game...
@Reiner - Thank you kind sir for sparing us the idiotic FIRST!! comment.
Not sure how I am supposed to "hang out" with a picture. Unless you mean... no, that can't be right.
Anyways, I must say, I looked into this and I really like the art style, but I'm really on the fence about it. I don't know if I'm going to want to play an old school platformer with all the new games coming.
The red Rocket-Knight looks like the Necromaster from Castle Crashers.
Who would ever vote a pig into the leader's position? An army of pigs, that's who!
i dont really care for the game but the art is pretty neat i must admit.
I loved it on the SNES. Very fun platforming, side-scrolling adventure.
The pig on the left of the image reminds me of Bebop for some reason.
Awesome, I loved Sparkster. Can't wait to see more about this.
God, the first game was so hard. The second one was pretty different, like it was done by a different team. Didn't care for it as much, but the first one rocked.
played the first one for sega actually was more challenging than you would think, not really worthy of a sequel though when many more games are worthy of sequels or remakes such as ff7, ogre battle 64, earthworm jim, x men clonewars. And countless others what is next to be remade awsome opossum
the sega and super nintendo versions were different from each other. wonder why developers don't take chances like that no more.
OMG, OMG, OMG, The last time I've played Sparkster I was freaking six years old, and now they're doing a comeback. Thank you so much Konami.
Awesome! I grew up with the originals! Can't wait to see where they take this.
