The lights are on
At the Annual Japan Media Arts Festival on Saturday, Shigeru Miyamoto said Nintendo currently has a few things in the works, a comment stemming from a rumored announcement at GDC next month that may include news of a new console.
What could the new hardware be? The rumored Wii HD and motion controlled DS have already been denied, but it has been admitted that the company does have something up its sleeve. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. In addition to his work on the new Zelda game, at the event Miyamoto also confirmed he is working on a new title using the WiiMotionPlus technology. Any guesses?

With the Wii being a massive failure in the gaming aspect, not in the hardware aspect(I mean really look how many are selling) It makes sense why they might want to start over with a new console so soon

Wii HD would be nice, but I'm with Nintendo that its not a productive use of their time right now. Their focus with the Wii is a wider audience, unfortunately for most of the people on this site, that means they aren't going to focus on superior graphics and animations. I think if they are going to refocus on serious gamers, they should start from scratch with a new system, build off of Natal and what PS3 are doing (just like they built off of Nintendo), and move forward into the new generation.
Hopefully this will help Nintendo a lot!
My prediction: Following in the footsteps of the GBA Micro, it'll be the Wee Wii. As a smaller version of the system you already own, the main advantage is that it will take up less space as it sits unused in your entertainment center.
Seriously, though, I'm anxious to see what the announcement could bring. Nintendo has talked about how the Wii has basically hit the saturation point for what it currently offers, so it would stand to reason that the company would have to add some kind of additional feature. There's no way they're working on their next-gen console quite yet.
the wii wasnt a massive failure it had some very good games but a large majority of its software sucked...i had fun with the wii for about 2 years until i sold it. and it also wasnt a failure cuz it mad a $h*T load of money

I ment it was a failure in the aspect that the only good games for the most part came out by Nintendo itself. 3rd party game developers have basically had a horrible time and all but have given up on the system as a whole. Obviously it is putting out impressive numbers in sales, but once people buy it, they barely use it after the first month (for most serious gamers).
An HD compatible Wii does absolutely nothing for me.
I hope this new console doesn't have a gimmicky control scheme like the Wii. I WOULD LIKE A REAL CONTROLLER, THANK YOU.
Considering that it's Nintendo, we might not know when it'll come out until a few moths before the actual release date. They're good at keeping secrets.
