Ghost Recon Announcement Coming This Week?

by Matt Bertz on Feb 08, 2010 at 07:03 AM

Recent Twitter posts from Ubisoft employees indicate the company may announce the next title for its popular tactical shooter franchise this week.

Last week, Paris-based community developer Aymeric Evennou revealed that Ubisoft has a major announcement pending, tweeting "Big announcement coming up next week, and I mean BIG!"

Across the globe at Raleigh, North Carolina-based Red Storm Entertainment (the Ghost Recon developer), community developer Kimi Matsuzaki also teased the event: "Looking forward to a big announcement coming up next week!" She followed up this morning by telling her followers to watch Xbox Live for the big news.

This seems to jive with previous intel we've received about Ubi's dormant tactical shooter. During an investor call last April, Ubisoft execs said a new Ghost Recon would be released in the 2011 fiscal year. For those of us who use a real calendar, that's an April 2010 to March 2011 window. Gaming website IGN also reported that Ubisoft has filed several new GRAW-centric trademarks since then, including Ghost Recon Predator and Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

The last Ghost Recon title, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, released in 2007 to positive reviews, earning an 8.75 from Game Informer. As a big fan of the series, I've been waiting impatiently for a new game for a long time. What would you like to see in a new Ghost Recon title?
