ModNation Racers Burns to PSP

Sony posits that ModNation Racers is an offshoot of the Play/Create/Share philosophy from LittleBigPlanet, and now that focus is spreading to the PSP. The company has announced that the kart racer is releasing on the PSP day-and-date with the TBA spring release of the title on the PlayStation 3.

The game features many of the elements within the PS3 version, including the ability to create and share your own track creations. It will also contain six-player Ad Hoc or Infrastructure multiplayer racing and the ability to download cars, characters, and player-created tracks. Developer United Front Games hasn't said whether or not the PSP and PS3 versions of ModNation Racers will connect in any way.

Although the PSP doesn't get much love, perhaps this kart racer is just the kind of title that the system is looking for.

  • I liked LittleBigPlanet a lot, the levels are insane. Just imagening racing, creating levels, and sharing this should be just a little bit better.

  • the idea is good but it being on psp and the characters hurt

  • This...is good but the screenshots are somewhat creepy...the guy in the 3d glasses scares me somewhat!

  • .... not even going to bother with the above comment.  But really here's two:  Killzone, Little big planet

Sounds good though, will have to keep this in mind for later.

  • Doubt it. Im a sony fanboy. and I will have no part in this pretty much worth piece of hardware.

  • I'll bargin bin it.

  • I can't wait to get this on ps3

  • They really need to make the PSP and PS3 versions cross-compatible in terms of content sharing.  If felt that the lack of cross-compatibility between the PS3 LittleBigPlanet and the PSP LBP really hurt the PSP LBP's chance to be a big seller for the PSP.  No one is going to spend a lot of time creating tracks for the PSP version unless it can be ported on to the PS3 version.

  • Give the PSP the same functionality as the Dualshock 3. It will then be the platform Sony wishes it was.

  • United Front is doing both versions?  And they are coming out at the same time?  If the PS3 version suffers because of this I'll be pissed.  Hopefully it won't be a problem.

  • GT PSP didnt work and neither will this

  • Nice to see them doing this type of title day-and-date on both their Playstation systems. I'm sure it'll be a great fit for the PSP, just as Mario Kart DS was a fantastic portable title, and for awhile, the BEST game for that platform.

Though personally, I'll be picking this up on PS3. Can't wait for that version! I hope the next Play/Create/Share is some sort of fighting game. Sony could use a Smash Bros- or Power Stone-style party fighter, and a Play/Create/Share title could be just the game to fill that niche.

  • Are they TRYING to make this seem like as much of an LBP ripoff as possible?

  • What's this, another good title for PSP coming out in 2010?  This is quite possibly the PSP's best software year yet, with this game, Peace Walker, and BBS. And @Altair: I enjoyed Bloodlines and had a lot of fun with it. One of the better games on PSP.

  • I was never interested in LBP (platforming is not my fave genre), but I want to get this game for the PS3 so bad :)

  • It could work out seeing as I was surprised by LittleBigPlanet on the PSP. Normally I would have doubts about a PSP version but if LBP made a great PSP game, than this could too. Although I might not get it right when it comes out, I might get it a few months after because it sounds like they may be too similar. That's probably the only downside I can think of right now. ModNation Racers is shaping up pretty nicely.

  • Can't wait for ModNation Racers. Very creative and immersive. But they should make the PSP compatible for the PS3 ModNation.
