THQ CEO Backs Up Sony Motion Controller's Rumored Name

There have been a lot of whisperings lately that the upcoming Playstation 3 motion controller may be named "Arc." Add another piece of evidence to the pile, as THQ CEO Brian Farrell constantly referenced the yet-unnamed motion controller in an investor call yesterday.

Joystiq reports that during the investor call, Farrell talked about how the publisher will take advantage of new "family-friendly platforms" including Microsoft's Natal and Sony's motion controller, which he referred to as "the PlayStation Arc motion controller." Throughout the rest of the call, Farrell continued referring to the device as Arc multiple times.

Of course, this isn't an official statement from Sony, so we've still got to take it with a grain of salt. That said, evidence continues to build that Arc is the title Sony is going with. Do you like that name or do you have a better idea for what Sony could name it?

  • I still like the idea of the playstation wand

  • they'll probably just call it "that thing that we stole from the Wii."  Does thing do anything that the Wii doesn't already do? The only thing i know about it is that it looks remarkably like a _____. Give me the Natal please!

  • lol the guy next to him in the photo already looks bummed. Like he knows it gonna suck

  • @ doogan

The wand was in production before the wii remote btw

  • also NATAL will be an epic fail do you really want to look like an idiot while playing games?

  • its so ugly

  • Maybe "Arc" can show the wii how it's really done.

  • I agree with Burt, they should have done a different design. It doesn't look like it's for the PS3.

  • They look embarrassed

  • I hate to admit it, but maybe Nintendo's design is best...

  • Well at least they went with the best name.

Still won't buy it though, no real need to as my setup isn't really large enough for anything with motion controls.

  • How about this?  The PS3-Mote.

It's just like the Wii-mote...a TV box shaped device that I have no use for.

(I still stick to the old rallying cry "Give me DualShock or Give Me Death")

  • Arc sounds like a fine name to me.

And I can't see why people are condemning it before they really know much about it.  From what we HAVE learned, it seems like it's gonna be a controller.  I can't say I'm gonna buy it the day it comes out, but I'm definitely gonna have one of these eventually.

As for the design, I have nothing against it.

  • I don't like the name

  • Bring. it. on.

  • Fact is, Doesn't matter what the name is Natal already showcased many flaws and Arc only has one problem.

  • I think the name is fine, doesn't sound bad at all. I'm definately convinced now that the name is Arc because I have high doubts that a CEO would use a name that people built up as a rumor. So now we can refer to it as the Arc instead of "Sony's unamed motion controller for the Playstation 3". Or they could always name it that.

  • i like "vibrating pleasure device" myself.

  • but family friendly none the less.   :)

  • Let's just call it what it is:

    The Sony Glowing ***

Cuz thats what it looks like. Admit it, you were all thinking it, you just weren't bold enough to come out and say it.
