Square Enix's Nier Release Date Announced

Square Enix has announced that their latest action RPG, Nier, will have a worldwide release on the PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 23.

"Nier fuses fast-paced action with a mature and mysterious narrative," said Larry Sparks, marketing VP. "The game sees a new direction for Square Enix and one that will appeal to action, adventure and RPG fans. We look forward to its release across PAL territories."

Much of Nier's narrative is still a mystery, however we do know that a deadly disease eliminates a major portion of the world's population causing doctors to release an experimental cure that makes matters worse. The Black Scrawl virus is developed from this "cure" bringing humanity to the brink of extinction. The titular protagonist seeks to find a cure to protect his family and on the way engages in bloody battles giving this violent, mature title a darker tone.

This is going to be a very interesting game. I'm guessing it will probably get much of the same treatment as Bayonetta did. Lots of critical acclaim but not many sales to match.

It's amazing that after all this time that people still can't believe that real developers are ignoring the wii. I mean honestly now this should not be shocking in any way shape or form.

I haven't even heard of this. I hope it will be worth buying. I think I will wait for a review to decide whether or not to get it.

I've been curious about this, I'm surprised that it's being released so close to Final Fantasy XIII though. I wonder how they managed to spread out their resources like that

I've been looking forward to this one for some time, but with it releasing so close to Final Fantasy XIII and Heavy Rain, I doubt I'll buy it when it first releases.

Scareforce, have you seen the graphics? Of course there isn't a Wii version.

I don't know a lot about this game, but I'll definitely check out the preview.

about f**king time!!! ***. if there is a flute in this game i will kill myself. why does every rpg have a flute in it? but yeah, hat's off to square for a m-rated rpg. i just might have to check this out.
