New Pokémon RPG To Release This Year

The Pokémon Company has announced that a new Pokémon RPG will release by the end of this year for the Nintendo DS. According to Bulbagarden, the title will be an "inventive rebirth" of the series, and the development team is "doing their best to exceed every Pokémon game before now."

Anyone else excited? The folks at Nintendo and Game Freak, who have released all past Pokémon games we know and love, are spearheading this project. Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, remakes of Game Boy Color's Gold and Silver, will hit retail in March, and already a brand new title will drop by the end of 2010. No other details have been released.

There you have it Pokémon fans. What would you like to see in the latest installment?

[Thanks to Hunter for the news tip!]

  • I have grown up playing Pokemon, and even though I would probably be humiliated if I admitted this anywhere else, I'm very excited to see the direction of where this is going.  Just please don't make a RubyRedPearl edition or anything that's a redux of the old games, please please please.

Also, for the sake of annoying the crap out of the general public, furstt

  • I'm kinda excited by this, already leaning at SoulSilver, might look into this one more

  • Thanks, we're thoroughly annoyed Pedro.  :)

As for what I want to see, give us more multiplayer options or even better yet... full co-op.  I'd love to play through the entire thing with a friend somehow.

Another great thing would be allowing us more than 4 moves.  Maybe break them down into categories like attack; defense; utility; etc.

These games are a lot of fun and very strategic.  I just hope they don't screw it up.  None of that spin off Pokemon Ranger crap.  Thanks.

  • Is this going to be an rpg like those Pokemon mystery dungeon games?

  • I really want to have a new generation of Pokemon. I liked Sinoh however they are going to try to top even the originals that is going to be a hard job however I think they could manage if they tried really hard

  • Ive been speculating in what direction could they take a pokemon in for awhile now. I know a lot of people will likely disagree with me for the sake of disagreeing with making any game into a MMO but I think they could make an extremely unique MMORPG out of pokemon. A pet-based (beastmaster-style) MMORPG that isn't browser or warcraft 3 based and free to play would a welcome addition to the world of MMOs imo.

    Thoughts?

  • SoulSilver all the way, Lugia trumps Ho-oH

  • yeah i love this series i love new games to come out

  • I was going to news tip this, but never got around to it :/

Anyway, I'm excited. The creators have been saying for a while now that they've been interested in action-style games, and have been thinking about incorporating some sort of action sequences into the games. So that is, hopefully, the new direction for Pokemon that could really keep me interested.

Plus, new pokemon are always cool (unless they're lame, like Stunky and Skuntank).

  • Actually, now in retrospect, I wish that they would go back to a simpler time when there was only 150 to collect.  Don't get me wrong, I like some of the new guys they added, but I have more fond memories of that elusive 150 number.  Maybe it's just me though.

  • I have been playing Pokemon games since i was a kid. Im alot older and i still play em (course i don't tell anyone <.< >.>), Its a fun RPG just kinda sucks idk any the new pokemon so idk who's good or who sucks lol.

  • I want a pokemon game that when i Fire pokemon uses fire spin on a small grass pokemon i want to kill it.....not make it faint....make it more real i say.

  • SERIOUSLY! CUT THE CRAP! WHEN IS NINTENDO GOING TO LET SOMEONE MAKE A POKEMON MMO? think about it. let it sink in. the world would be a better place. running around a big world with wild pokemon. epic

  • YAY!

  • I hope you can play as different characters from previous games and as you progress through the game, you go to every region in oher games. That would be sweet!

  • I think an MMO would be outside of the company's target demo. I mean, you can make it accessible for the young ones, but considering the cutthroat (maybe that word is a little strong, but you know) nature of competitive pokemon battles and how hardcore those players are (check out Smogon for an idea), it might quickly become a hostile environment for the children the MMO is intended for. Because yeah, we're all a little older and still enjoy Pokemon, which is part of what makes Pokemon fun (you can still enjoy it as you age), but in the end it's meant for 8-12 year olds, just like you were when you played your first Pokemon game (probably).

  • There's a limit to how far you can go just making new pocket monsters and spinning them through the same out-dated game.

  • Im very excited cause ive been with pokemon since the very beginning and ive played them all......even tho im in college now im still a big fan over all the years......im ready for a new region (hopefully itll be huge) maybe even two new regions in one (doubt it tho) and some new pokemon to test out and train.......i just hope they dont screw this up......Nintendo and Gamefreak we are counting on you!!! dnt let us long time loyal fans down.......
