Free-To-Play FIFA Online

Just days after announcing its FIFA World Cup video game, EA Sports is not only giving you more footie with the newly announced FIFA Online, but it's asking fans to significantly shape the game through its beta process.

FIFA Online is a free, browser-based title playable on most computers with a broadband connection. The game features a mouse-only control system, although many details of the game (which will start its open beta this June) are still to be determined. In fact, EA is using a closed beta period in Europe starting February 3rd to vet features for the title. Overall, the game features 30 licensed leagues, 500 clubs, and 15,000 players, and it will offer tournament play (including the World Cup), League Mode, and the ability to build your own dream team as you play. Other features and aspects of FIFA Online will be determined by the fans' feedback in the closed beta.

“Fans will determine the features that matter most," says FIFA Online's executive producer, Kaz Makita, "and at the end of this process, our goal is to deliver a game for fans looking for a quick soccer fix at home or at work.”

Do you think that a browser-based title like this can carry the FIFA gameplay we've gotten used to?

FIFA Online will offer equipment upgrades via play or microtransations.

  • FIRST!!!

  • I think its great for the fans. An online game that's free to play, can't really complain. Anything to get fans ready for the World Cup is always good.

  • @ GABRIEL ANGUINO

You have officialy became my official enemy for the day.

And I think this is a good idea, I mean who can argue for a free online game?

  • Free is sweet, but mouse-only? I don't see how that will work.

  • GOAL!!!! but seriously soccer (futbol) really sucks except for the soccer hooligans going crazy in a soccer riot and burnin down the town, thats pretty cool. any apologies to those who may have lost loved ones in a soccer riot, but its their fault for being there everyone knows after an "exciting" soccer game there is a riot

  • Looks amazing. I really want to play it

  • Nice

  • @CaNdLE_LiiGHT: I'm so glad you said that, that Gabriel guy literally did not contribute with that statement haha

  • I've always liked the Fifa series even when they failed to bring anything new to the table. But I have no complaints now with the release of the amazing Fifa 10, that AND a free-to-play game, wow EA may have finally began to think about the fans.

  • Very cool. More free games please!

  • Not sure how a mouse only gameplay can work as well as what we've gotten used to, especially with the improvements in the game this year, but I think the idea is a good one and hopefully will be successful!

  • Free, mouse-only, browser based? Sounds like it'll be a fun diversion, though not a serious game.
