Sword of the Stars II Announced

by Adam Biessener on Jan 27, 2010 at 05:20 AM

Paradox Interactive dropped the news of a sequel to 2006's space empire grand strategy title for PC this morning. A favorite among hardcore strategy gamers, Sword of the Stars is beloved for its outstanding balance and the well-executed real-time battles within its larger turn-based structure. The game enjoyed enough success to spawn two expansions prior to this deal for a sequel.

Not much concrete info accompanied Sword of the Stars II's announcement, as the game is currently in "early development". We do know that the original six playable races will return, accompanied by the mysterious Suul'ka, an ancient species deeply tied to the game's lore.

Original developer Kerberos is back at the helm for this sequel, and promises that SotS II will "[not be] limited to another entire race and their unique drive technology." Kerberos left any further details to our imaginations, but we can safely assume that the general structure of the game will be similar.

Sword of the Stars II is scheduled for a 2011 release on PC. We'll have more details for you as they become available.
