Dead Rising 2 Confirmed For 2010, Live-Action Film Announced

Capcom is gearing up for a big year. It’s not yet February and the industry icon has already released two highly-touted titles – Dark Void and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. Filling out the remainder of the 2010 roster is Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Mega Man 10, Final Fight: Double Impact, Lost Planet 2, Super Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, Monster Hunter Tri and more. It appears that we can now add Dead Rising 2 to the 2010 tally.

Following the slew of updates out of Capcom yesterday, the developer/publisher confirmed that Dead Rising 2 will claw its way from the grave sometime in 2010. That slightly narrows the previously known launch window that could have seen the game released anytime before March 2011.

In addition to the launch update, Capcom also revealed that a live-action Dead Rising movie is in the works. Yep, the game that unapologetically ripped off Dawn of the Dead is coming full circle. Slated to be distributed over Xbox Live in Japan, there is no official news about a North American version. The official Capcom Blog seems to be gauging the interest of readers through comments, however.

You can check out the trailer here. The camp and gore seem to be on par with what we’ve come to expect from zombie movies. It’s the hardcore wheelchair customization that’s caught our interest. We suspect that can be credited to the involvement of Dead Rising Director Keiji Inafune.

  • first!

  • and why is it that deadrising gets a movie before God of war? WTF?

  • Kinda getting burned out on zombie movies, but the game should be pretty awesome.

  • and dead rising 2 will probably be the only good game in that bunch .

  • sounds like a fun game...not sure about the movie though...

  • that movie looks bad.

  • Hehe, chainsaw wheelchair.Seems fairly...erm...low budget though, perhaps this is being developed by the Japan branch of whoever makes those Sci-fi...er,"Syfy Original Movies".

  • This movie looks NOTHING like any sort of Dead Rising. The only similarity is the fact that they ripped certain scenes straight from the game. Do not want....

  • Dead Rising 2 this year!! and a movie!!  I love zombies...

  • wow, that is either going to wicked awesome or just an epic fail. Hmm, it's hard to mess up a zombie flick so hopefully all goes well.

  • New zombie game (moar Mega Man items???) = good

Zombie flick based on a zombie game based on a zombie flick = not so much

  • Well the last movie Capcom had made was this gem, "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li". Not sure if it's possible to top that in terms of suck.

  • The Japenesse can't even make movies that are supposed to be silly and fun propperly.  That is why the U.S. is the movie capital of the world movies that we consider campy and terrible while still entertaing (Doom movie for instance) are the better than the best movies other contries can make (animation excluded).

  • I love Zombie movies, I mean I REALLY love them. The cheesier the better. I don't speak Japanese, but I can tell horrible acting when I see it and that was horrible acting. Mix that with a wheelchair death machine and.... well, you got a recipie for a Zombie movie. It will suck, there is no doubt, but I will have to see it.

@ vote 4 pedro: Your line, A zombie flick based on a game based on a flick = not so much... I have been laughing for a straight minute about that line. That, sir, is a gem!

  • zombies are in right now!!!! god i hope this game kicks a$$....

  • I've been hearing that it might be released for free over the web.

  • Dead Rising 2!!! And a Movie!!! YESSSSS!!!!

  • sweet lost planet 2 and dead rising 2.what a year this is gonna be!

  • The movie looks even cheesier than the game lol. Thats pretty impressive.

  • The game looks great! But that movie looks awful.
