The lights are on
WaveGroup’s name might not be familiar, but if you’ve played a rhythm game since Guitar Hero on you’ve likely experienced its handiwork. The company has handled the audio production end of things for the first few Guitar Hero games before moving onto Rock Band. That included recording the cover versions for older games (remember the days before master tracks were the standard?), mixing tracks, and other assorted knob-twiddling tasks.
WaveGroup is now transferring its audio talent to the Rock Band Network. The company announced that it is working with a number of musicians and bands, preparing their songs for when the Rock Band Network Music Store goes live.
"WaveGroup is the premiere production team for interactive music videogames and I was thrilled to partner with them on my songs," said guitar icon Steve Vai, who is one of those musicians. "Now I can jam with people in the comfort of their own plastic!"
The announced acts include the following, with more said to be announced in the weeks and months ahead:
Steve VaiWidespread PanicGov't MuleReverend Horton HeatStroke 9GalacticRebelutionBif NakedAssembly of DustNick GallantKid BeyondRX BanditsJet Black KissDoug DopplerAustin WillacyThe HumansRain Dogs
What do you think? Is your wallet singing out in anticipating of these artists? Does Rock Band DLC hold your interest in the same way it did after the game launched?

I just don't feel a need t opurchase even MORE songs for a game that is already full of them. Especialy with these artists.
Interesting to have the developing companies responsible for the first Guitar Hero back together on Rock Band.
Can't say I've got any of these artists in my library, but I'm always happy to see new (to me) acts in the RB store. I think I've got somewhere around 80 DLC tracks already, a fair amount I just picked up on a whim because the sample sounded good and fell in love with the group.
i can honestly say that Steve Vai is the ONLY act on that list that i've heard of. and since none of them sound as though they are in the thrash metal genre, i can easily say i'm underwhelmed. again.
I've heard of Bif Naked Stroke 9 and Gov't Mule and no they do not excite me...I was hoping for some truly independent artist to get on there stuff Like Murder By Death, MC Lars, Against All Authority but instead we're stuck with the wish they had made its...
corny !
I've only heard of maybe one of those bands. Definitely nothing that I'd want to pick up. Unless it's something I really love, I don't know how much I'd be picking up until a solid Rock Band 3 comes out. It's such a shame so much of it doesn't work in Lego Rock Band.
Why doesn't anything sound remotely interesting on that list?
I never heard of any of these artist/bands except for steve vai. Who are all these people??
Who are all these people (besides Steve Vai, who everyone seems to have heard of)?
Widespread Panic are an Athens GA based jam band.
Gov't Mule are a band founded by members of the Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes and (the late, great) Allen Woody.
The Reverend Horton Heat is a rockabilly legend and will kick all of your asses.
Galactic are a funky, FUNKY, New Orleans based funk/rock/jazz fusion band.
The rest of them, you are on your own.
Personally, I think its nice to see some of these talented and successful groups (Widespread have been a successful touring band on the jam band scene for over 20 years, and the Rev. Horton Heat has been wowing the patrons of dive bars, *** tonks, and selling out theaters for just as long) getting a little RB love.
yes to the reverend!
Widespread? Hell yes!!! I've been waiting for a RB track from them for forever! *crosses fingers for something from the Space Wrangler album*
Also, Gov't Mule and Steve Vai? Man, I'm gonna be broke by the time all is said and done... 8-|
i will fork out the cash for any widespread, mule, or galactic tracks... no question. unless they're working on new tracks, the widespread stuff will be old michael houser classics, which is fine by me (although jimmy herring would be a blast as well)... just not sure how easy vocals will be... john bell is one of a kind. galactic would be a blast on the bass and drums, gettin all funkdafied... and gov't mule gives us warren haynes... need i say more? where's my mule!?
I love the Rock Band DLC! I've easily invested more into that game than any other I've ever played. As for these though, I've never heard of any of them... Doesn't mean I won't check them out though!
Steve vai will be amazing, others not so much
The only one that has me excited right now is Steve Vai, but I'm more than willing to give all the others a fair shot.
i dont see much of a point paying for more songs when each game is packed with tons of songs
Reverend Horton Heat + Steve Vai = FTW
it would be nice to see some more linkin park or even some limp bizkit, tired of seeing the same kind of music.
Doug Doppler! Bif Naked! is this a Rock Band story or have they already announced the inductees for next year's Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame ceremony?
