Activision CEO Confirms DJ Hero Sequel For 2010
We've already heard early rumblings about a potential sequel to Activision's latest original foray into the music game genre, DJ Hero. Now we know for sure that it's coming thanks to a telling comment by Activision CEO Bobby Kotick in a recent interview.
Speaking to Game Informer last month, Kotick discussed Activision's ideal of committing to IP for the long-term. "...if you're going to make a commitment to doing something original, the odds are that you're not going to get it right on the first chance," Kotick said. He pointed to numerous Activision developers as examples of this trend, including Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Raven, and Neversoft, all developers who Kotick says didn't produce their best products first.
Turning his attention to DJ Hero, an ambitious project that received a lot of critical buzz but has not sold terribly well, Kotick reiterated his devotion to improving the game for a second volume:
"I think DJ Hero is a really innovative product. I can't wait for you to see next year's. That's the thing; we're sticking with it. We'll stick with it and get it right. But it's going to be less games, better games. That's our strategy."
This comment makes you wonder if Activision also plans to stick with other seeming flops that had less solid gameplay such as Tony Hawk Ride.
