PlayStation 3 Holiday Sales Surge To Nearly Four Million

by Matt Bertz on Jan 06, 2010 at 04:38 PM

No press conference is complete without a little boasting, and Sony's Kaz Hirai dutifully delivered the self congratulatory number touting regarding the PlayStation 3 during the company's Consumer Electronics Show event in Las Vegas. Bolstered by the introduction of the PS3 Slim, a lower price point, and an increasingly impressive first-party software lineup featuring standout titles like 2009's game of the year Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the console's sales surged to 3.8 million over the holiday season according to the company's internal figures. This marks a 76-percent increase over last year's holiday sales figures.

With highly anticipated titles like God of War III, Heavy Rain, and M.A.G. slated to release in the near future, Sony's numbers should continue to grow in year over year comparisons in the coming months. What do you say Xbox 360 and Wii owners – are this software lineup and the cheaper pricetag enough to make you splurge for another console?
