Tetsuya Nomura Hints At Huge Square Enix Release... Could It Be Kingdom Hearts 3?

In an interview with Gemega magazine, game director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura said Square Enix will pull away the veil on a top secret, highly requested game in 2010. While I would like to think it will be a new Chrono title, I don't think it falls into the category of "highly requested." Since it is Nomura, my guess would be Kingdom Hearts 3. The PSP title Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is set to release in Japan on January 9, and at this point, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is likely a good ways into development.

Of course, we cannot dismiss the idea of this announcement being the remake of Final Fantasy VII -- the game everyone is dying to play. But before you start drolling over Final Fantasy VII again, ask yourself this: Do you really want the Final Fantasy team focusing on a remake rather than a new game? I have fond memories of Final Fantasy VII, but I honestly don't need to go back to it if it means we have another three-year wait for a NEW Final Fantasy.

...Speaking of Chrono, what about that whole "Chrono Break" thing? Remember that from a few years ago? That would be pretty sweet on 360 or Wii. Just not on PS3. Sony got the last Chrono.

FF VII would be nice, but then again, think about what FF VII is. A lot of the viewpoints in that game are from far away, looking down on the action. Do we REALLY want a remake as much as we think we do, or would it kinda be a waste of time. I'd rather an entirely new storyline, or the continuation of one that we all want pretty *** badly (Kingdom Hearts 3). I'll probably be happy with anything they dish out, but I don't think we actually want the VII remake as much as we think we do.

The only way I would want a VII remake is if it were a remake, and not a new coat of paint. Use modern tech to the maximum potential. Eliminate the map and institute a seamless world, update the battle system, re-do the dialogue (please, please re-do the dialogue), give with new abilities and sidequests. New graphics don't constitute a remake.

If that isn't on the table, work on new games. And even if Final Fantasy VII were beautifully remade with all of that, it would still lack some of that original magic. Quite frankly, some of the most fondly remembered experiences from the past should stay in the past.

*** a remake of FF7...remake chrono trigger if you are going to waste time remaking stuff first of all, secondly get us a new kingdom hearts game with more action and less disney, and thirdly howabout a next gen tactics follow up!?

It has to be Kingdom Hearts III, what else could it be? We know that Agito xiii and Versus xiii are in the works, but why just announce a release date for them as major news? As far as a remake of vii, come on just leave it be for now, give us something new. Heck it may even been a new LP that we have yet to hear about, now that would be sweet.

I would actually prefer a remake of FFVII, just because it's more likely to be multi-console than KH3 and I don't have the money to go for a PS3
